References & Notes

  1. ^ McGregor opted for a rematch with Nate Diaz at Welterweight in Aug 2016 as opposed to a title defence against Frankie Edgar. McGregor was replaced by former champion Jose Aldo, who also wanted a title shot.
  2. ^ Jose Aldo was booked to rematch Ricardo Lamas in Dec 2017. However, after Frankie Edgar was injured before his fight with Max Holloway in Dec 2017, Aldo was offered the rematch and title shot against Holloway. Aldo was replaced by Josh Emmett.
  3. ^ McGregor was expected to defend his belt against Nurmagomedov following UFC 215, however he instead took a hiatus. An interim title fight between Nurmagomedov & Ferguson was booked.
  4. ^ Nurmagomedov withdrew from the Ferguson bout due to weight cutting issues, and Ferguson rejected Michael Johnson as a replacement, resulting in the cancellation of the bout.
  5. ^ Lee replaced Nurmagomedov and fought against Ferguson for the interim title later on in the year.
  6. ^ Conor McGregor was expected to unify his Lightweight title against Tony Ferguson in December 2017. However, the fight was never booked, and McGregor was replaced by Khabib Nurmagomedov and later stripped. The Ferguson/Nurmagomedov fight was set for April 2018.
  7. ^ Tony Ferguson was expected to fight for the vacant title in April 2018 against Khabib Nurmagomedov, whilst still holding the interim title, however he was pulled from the fight due to injury and replaced by Al Iaquinta.
  8. ^ Khabib Nurmagomedov had suggested he was interested in fighting Eddie Alvarez if the expected McGregor/Ferguson bout was booked. However, this did not happen, and Khabib was instead booked against Ferguson for April 2018. Alvarez was later booked to fight Dustin Poirier in July 2018.
  9. ^ Dustin Poirier did not receive a title shot and instead was booked to fight Nate Diaz for November 2018. Nurmagomedov was booked to defend against the previous lineal champion Conor McGregor for October 2018.
  10. ^ The UFC attempted to book Woodley vs. Covington for Jan 2019. However, Woodley cited injury and so the UFC instead tried to book Covington vs. Usman for an interim title/as a title eliminator. Covington turned down the fight, and so UFC 233 was cancelled. The UFC later booked Woodley in Mar 2019 against Usman instead of Covington, seemingly in retaliation for Covington turning down the fight against Usman.
  11. ^ St-Pierre was expected to unify his belt with Whittaker in February 2018, however he instead vacated the belt in December 2017 due to illness.
  12. ^ Whittaker was booked to fight Rockhold, who had already won his QF bout. Therefore, Whittaker receives a BYE into the next round instead of an opponent replacement.
