I see you've been editing this article since we got it saved on behalf of the newcomer, Adarshsamaj, that created it. If you believe in this article and its topic, then by all means keep at it. I notice, however, that the original author has made no additional edits (either to this article or any others), in spite of comments and suggestions on his talk page. At this point, you should not feel compelled to keep working on this "to be a good guy" or to "stick up for a newcomer". I've wasted lots of time in the past working on newcomers' semi-vanity or vanity articles, only to find they had no interest in ever adding to Wikipeida again, including the article I busted my butt for. You've certainly gone beyond the call of duty in your first efforts on his behalf and I am disappointed to see he/she has not bothered to reciprocate.

This is one reason I like the PROD process -- the author gets 5 days to show that he/she can make the article into something acceptable, even if not wikified or pretty. If they don't care to do this, then I lose interest. So I fight to get speedy deletes changed to PRODs, but I like to see the newcomer showing some "skin in the game"

That's my two cents worth and it certainly should not be viewed as criticism -- I very much respect what you've done.

Follow up - you claim that "Brazil were favourites" was uncited. They were number 1 seed (I must admit I thought this was in the article itself - I've just checked and it's on a linked page). Although this doesn't necessarily make them favourites, it is common knowledge. (I agree a reference would be technically required under the rules of WP, but if we did that for every minor detail in an article of that size, it would become impossibly large). Even so, if you thought that a reference was required, a {{fact}} tag should be all that is necessary, not a full reversion. Finally, can I suggest that where an edit is not obviously vandalism, you wait a few minutes before altering, as the original editor may be making changes (as I was at the time - putting the link to Brazil national football team, which incidentally also cited them as favourites). --

Hi Tivedshambo, thanks for your very kind words about my Talyllyn map. I'm trying to add maps for all the Welsh narrow gauge railways: you'll see them popping up as I get time to do them. So far I've got the Ffestiniog Railway, Corris Railway, Kerry Tramway and Hendre-Ddu Tramway done. I'm very glad you corrected and added to the route description to the Talyllyn article. I'm planning on expanding it further when I get time. Thanks also for the corrections to the map. I'll do another version incorporating these changes shortly. The Tynllwynhen spelling came from Boyd's "Narrow Gauge Railways in Mid Wales" which I suspect is a late Victorian version of the current spelling. I've been a member of the Corris Railway Society since 1978 and it always was my favorite railway. Sadly I haven't been back since they completed No. 7 so I've never seen steam at Maespoeth: I hope I can do so next year. My guess is they'll get the southward extension to Tan-y-coed completed in the next five-seven years. After that I could see a gradual extension south to Machynlleth, although re-bridging the Dyfi won't be easy. I'm also concerned that the article is unverifiable. Why is it called "Pikey corner"? I can find only one reference to this phrase in Google (see this link), and that is in a blog. Blogs are not usually accepted as citable evidence by Wikipedia.

Finally, does "Pikey Corner" refer only to Tescos, or any supermarket chain? If Tescos only, the article may be seen as advertising, which is also not acceptable on Wikipedia.

Please don't take these criticisms personally. As first articles go, this is a lot better than some. And perhaps there is a need for information about reduced rate shelves in the Supermarket article. But please don't refer to it as Pikey corner, unless you can produce evidence that such a term is widespread.

Further, a group focusing on a level approximately 600 times more selective than Mensa, for example, is bound to be much smaller. When blocking IPs, admins have the ability to block registered users using that IP as well or just anons. My suggestion would be to put {{SharedIP|NAME OF COMPANY}} at the top of the IP's talk page so admins know it's a shared IP which is likely to have legitimate users. If you want I can put an additional notice at the top of the talk page to clarify that there are legitimate users on that IP and blocks to it should always be anon-only. --

I see that most (all?) of your railway images (for example Image:Tivedshambo 2006-03-05 Dolgoch.jpg) are tagged as GFDL but also with an additional copyright notice of your own making. This additional notice appears to contradict both the GFDL and Wikipedia's rules on image uploads. Specifically you cannot upload images to Wikipedia that can't be used commercially, as your additional license restriction seems to say. I am not an expert in this area but it seems that you have to either lift your additional restrictions or remove the images licensed in this way. That would be a great shame as you have added some wonderful pictures that greatly enhance the Talyllyn Railway article and others. Could you clarify this for me? Railway station coordinates

Hi,

I have just reverted a number of your edits, to railway station articles, where you have replaced coordinates with OSGB grid references. The use of coordinates ensures that the page is included in the Google Earth layer for Wikipedia. Using {{

Geo microformat; and coordinates are better understood, than OS references, by readers outside the UK. I have also edited your addition to the usage notes for the relevant template, because the use of coordinates vs. OSGB is not an "either/or" choice - both can be used, side-by-side, with no ill-effects. Do you know the names of the junctions and distances of them on what i've updated on the map?

Could you add South Tottenham by putting it in vertically? Bring the line from Gospel Oak in, bend it west to south, add the station, then take it out north to east? I think that would just be too confusing, as South Tottenham is also around the 6 mile post, but measured from Gospel Oak. As (I believe) there is only one train a day which uses this route, I don't think the distance matters. What I might do, though, is re-position the rows so that each station is at the correct position in relation to distance from London - at present the distances on the Chingford branch seem out of step. –

Wombourne Branch Line

I've changed the map at the Wolverhampton end so that it shows the line heading to Wolverhampton Low Level, rather than High Level. Could you just check and make sure that it's OK? I've not edited one before, so it would be nice to know if I've done it correctly.

Also, I've added in the modern loop towards Bushbury Junction between Low Level and Dunstall Park. This loop was only built in the 1990s to replace Cannock Road Junction to the south in order that trains would not need to reverse - but it means that the track though Dunstall Park is still in use (if somewhat infrequently!). I've done some more tweaking, to show the parallel route into High Level, also the original curve from Low Level to Stafford. It could possibly do with some explanation that not all routes were open at the same time - e.g. that it was not possible to run from High Level to Wombourne as the High Level to Shrewsbury connection only opened (as far as I know) when Low Level closed.

Incidentally, the direct curve to Stafford must have opened before the 1990's as I travelled over it ona diverted service once in the late 1980's. –

The High Level - Shrewsbury line was open prior to 1968 - services originally ran to High Level before the opening of Low Level between 1849 and 1854 - though prior to 1852 (and the opening of High Level) the service ran to a temporary station just to the north of Broad Street. Additionally, GWR's Herbert Street Goods Station (parallel to Great Western Street) was just to the north of High Level.

Wolverhampton and Walsall Railway

Great article! I've updated the RBS template to try to show more accurately where it joined. As far as I can see (from your article and from this map) it left the existing Walsall-Wolverhampton line after it diverges from the RBS line. IS this correct? I've also tweaked the Oxley chord to show it going under the RBS line.

I think the line must have closed in the 1970s, not 1980s. It's shown in my 1970 rail atlas, but the first edition of the Baker atlas, published in 1977, only shows a short siding at Wolverhampton, and the line only going from Walsall to Birchills power station at the other end. –

The RBS map looks much better after your alterations - thank you. The actual location of the junctions is very odd. The lines appear to run parallel to one another (in a four track arrangement) until the LNWR's Loop Line diverges to the south just west of Heath Town. However, there was no junction between those lines until they are virtually at High Level itself, which is why I placed the layout how I did. On a geographical reference, your map is more accurate than mine, although as the track layout was, mine is more accurate! Personally, I prefer your version - it gives a better idea to anyone learning about the line, and is how I've shown it on the article itself.

On the subject of the RBS map - how do you feel about adding all the closed stations to it?

As for the closure of the line, it happened in stages (which I really ought to correct the article with!) The line near to Bentley station was removed due to the construction of the M6 motorway, although the line at the western end to just beyond Wednesfield and at the eastern end as you describe remained open for goods traffic to the relevant industrial areas, though such traffic was light.

I also have more research to do regarding the station closures. Pretty much all available resources state that the stations were all closed by 1931, but I have A-Z type mapping from the 1960s showing certain stations (Wednesfield and Willenhall Stafford Street) as being open. My Memory of God's Wonderful Railway

Hi, just read your aticle and glad to see you are working on this subject. There were four empty houses across from my school on Stourport Road in Bewdley which were used in the filming. I remember seeing them decked out in 1940's regalia. I was 18 at the time, my parents ran a caravan site in Northwood Lane, Bewdley, where the director and some of the film crew stayed. I was asked to be an extra in a small part of the film. I think the director's name was Caroline Sharpe, but I'm not entirely sure. Will look forward to seeing more on this article. I noticed this issue a while ago and it seems it has yet to be resolved. You have uploaded some very good photos that add greatly to articles but I'm afraid I must agree with the concerns raised, your GFDL+ licence is not valid. As Wikipedia:Non-free content says "we do not accept material [released under] a license exclusively for non-commercial usage". Comparing it to the notice used by User:Fir0002 is misleading as there is not a restriction of use of the image.

GFDL+ violates policy because is does not allow commercial use without permission. This means your images can be speedy deleted under CSD I3. I do not want to do this, nor do I want to see the images replaced by thumbnails. For these reasons I ask that you reconsider your opinions on licensing and remove the GFDL+ notice. I would suggest that GFDL on its own is offers enough protection against commercial use of your images. This is because GFDL requires that when the material is used a copy of the licence, a quite substantial document, must be included. I'm sorry but your edits do not address the concerns I have raised. GFDL+ is a non-commercial licence because it does not allow commercial use without "explicit permission". I'm also slightly concerned by the restriction on editing the image. Again I would suggest it is misleading to compare it to User:Fir0002's note on his image pages. He does not restrict use of his images whatsoever beyond those restrictions of the GFDL. The note simply offers more relaxed licensing subject to negotiations. This note probably relates to the burdensome nature of the GFDL in using images in print media as I mentioned previously. This would certainly appear to be correct. That provision is to allow commercial publishers the option of printing the image unencumbered by the requirements of GFDL. Yours does not - it explicitly prevents commercial use under any circumstances without your explicit permission, which is very unwiki. If commercial use of "freely donated work" (which of course isn't "freely donated" if you are restricting its use) gets you down, you could go into the business of selling your pictures to commercial publishers. Hi - I see you've requested that this image is converted to SVG format. Do you know of any conversion software that can do this - either from the current PNG, or from the original Microstation DGN format (which can be exported as an AutoCad file if necessary)? I suspect it would be easier from Microstation or AutoCad, as these are vector based rather than the PNG raster based. I did find some Microstation to SVG software once, but as it costs over $500, I wasn't going to buy it!

Sorry, I don't have any info on Microstation DGN to SVG conversion other than what I can google up in a minute or two. Converting from PNG automatically is not really feasible. It would probably be more reliable to reconstruct the route maps in Inkscape. One possibility you may want to consider is printing/exporting the DGN to postscript. Then the postscript can be converted to SVG with a tool like pstoedit (there are others out there, but that is the one I've been using). I've asked the IP editor to hold off on tagging any more images til this is resolved - as far as can tell, you have two options - 1) Release the images under GFDL, and they can be kept (I'll gladly restore any that are already deleted) or 2) Insist on retaining a non-commercial licence over them, and they will all have to be deleted.

The current licencing status is "free, but any commercial use must be authorised by me" - this is not free under the terms of GFDL. Your images do retain protection under GFDL, but your "GFDL+" licence is a non-commercial licence. I'll check back in later to see what you say.

A quick google confirms frequent references to Seaton Viaduct (and a few to North Seaton Viaduct in Co. Durham). Egyptian Association of Canterbury, Inc. (EAC)

I'm not too familiar with notability guidelines with respect to organizations, but Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) indicates that organizations are notable if they are mentioned in independent secondary sources. I Googled some of the organizations listed in Category:Non-profit organisations based in Australia (couldn't find one for New Zealand) and some appear to have the same degree of coverage, though Googling by itself may not necessarily be sufficient to determine notability. As I mentioned, however, website links by themselves may not be enough to establish notability or lack thereof. It's a local organization that caters to a small community. I think it's borderline now, so I'm not going to take it to AfD. This is why I prefer PROD - it can act as a warning that the article may be deleted if action isn't taken, but it can be easily removed when things are improved. With AfD, the whole process has to be seen to the conclusion. –

Hello Tivedshambo and Zerida, I strongly disagree with the following: 1- the notability of the EAC as it is indeed serves the Egyptian community in NZ and maintains a strong communications and contacts with the all levels of the NZ government plus many public and private organisations. 2- Indeed the links do not point except to the website, however its expansion is easy to achieve. 3- the claim that http://www.eac.org.nz/ola.asp is copyrighted is ABSOLUTELY FALSE. This link states the purpose and objectives of the EAC which are public domain provided in the publicly registered constitution of the EAC. But why is that relevant to the encyclopaedia? Lots of stations have such low speed limits across them (25mph at Reading, 15mph at Cardiff Central, 20mph IIRC at King's Cross). Thank you for your reply. As far as I can tell, the header section contains information that has been repeated within the text itself, and as such, is referenced there. Having had a look at the example of a recent FA you gave me, there is only one footnote, which contains no reference material, and from looking at various FAs, there are few which contain references in the header section. The page originally had no content as in it just contained external links which is grounds for a speedy deletion. So I requested it to be speedy deleted, but you managed to userfy it at the same time. So I deleted that csd as it was a userfied page. But the original page still had the links/external links so I requested that to be speedy deleted but then you redirected it so I deleted the csd from the redirect. Passenger services on the Foss Islands Branch Line

Hi. Passenger trains on the DVLR definitely terminated at Layerthorpe, so didn't actually run on any part of the

Foss Islands Branch Line

at any time, as can be seen from your nifty diagram.

Talking of which, the line into the chocolate factory was beyond the Halt, as approached from the York/Scarborough line, rather than before it where you've currently positioned it on the diagram. It also faced the opposite way from that shown, and would have involved a reversing operation for freight coming that way, though not if coming from Foss Islands or the DVLR. And there was an elaborate railway system round the works, too - maybe you could put in a loop there!

Oh, and in my view the FI depot is the end of the FI Branch and should be part of the straight line on the diagram, and the link to Layerthorpe station and the DVLR should be a spur off to the right - the article is about the Branch, isn't it?

Google Earth screenshots

Howdy, I just wanted to point out that while Google Earth screenshots are released for use and the copyright itself is not the issue with Wikipedia; the licensing for screenshots includes the stipulation that they not be used for commercial use. Wikipedia does not permit images which come with a non-commercial clause. So basically, Google Earth images are indeed forbidden from use on Wikipedia; but just for a different reason. I have created a neutral page for Stage-Gate Process and Product Development Institute both were tagged by someone at Wiki on "speedy delete". There is no blatant advertising. Three, eTrafficJams.com/GetUpdated.com is an internationally traded company on the stock exchange. They are one of the world's largest internet marketing companies. I think you are doing a disservice to Wikipedia, and labeled the article advertising. If that is the case then take down every company on your website.

Why is it fair for a large company and not a small to be listed on your website? Though this is not the case, I feel that wikipedia quickly pulled the trigger, without analyzing the content.

Yes, I am aware of the bug where CSBot doesn't seem to notice that the original is a sandbox in userspace— the bug is being worked on, but might be related to a bug in the Mediawiki software (the software on which Wikipedia runs) itself— it would seem that the namespace where an article lives is misreported as the article space in some circumstances (apparently, only in cases where the sandbox article was cut-and-pasted as opposed to moved to is new article space location, but not nearly in all those cases).

I am trying to figure out a good way to work around the problem, in the meantime I realize it's a bit inconvenient and annoying, but I'll ask you to be patient and just go ahead and remove the tags. In the 6 months or so that CSBot has been operating, only about a dozen cases have been reported (and, strangely enough, most of those in the past month), so it's unlikely to be reasonable to suspend CSBot operation until the bug is found and mercilessly squished. — Coren ^(talk) 17:46, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for this. I've got some sources to add (notably the York Archaeological Trust fascicule on the Walls and Castles - great stuff) but wanted to put in some more on the C19 and on C20 slum-clearance. Sources are easier to add than inline refs, and I somehow assume that Layerthorpe is never going to be a GA or FA, so I'll get round to it soon. I'm also trying to work up an article on Drake - have you seen Francis Drake (disambiguation)?!?

Archiving - yes, another thing I haven't quite got round to, but you're right, Must Do It.

As for Layerthorpe itself - when we were househunting in York four years ago, we had some Layerthorpe/Heworth addresses, but, walking out of town, past the car-dealerships and the defunct Frog Hall, we thought "Do we want to have to walk into town past this?" The answer being no, we abandoned ship and went back for a few in the Black Swan. Now living on Walmgate: medieval church on exiting the building, W towers of the Minster come into view before Merchantgate, ten restaurants and three second-hand bookshops between here and M&S, 5 min to the Market, 10 min walk to the Minster, 13 min walk to the station, I've died and gone to heaven! As the copyright holder, I have the right to choose what copyright I apply to my images, and to amend that copyright if I see fit. For example, I may wish to change to GFDL 1.3, or whatever version may come out in future, if that version is compatible with WP or Commons. I have not seen anything either in Wikipedia or Commons, that states that I cannot do this. Therefore I cannot comply with your request. It is unlikely that I would withdraw my licence altogether, and I realise my images would be deleted if I did this. Incidentally, you will notice that I do not use creative commons - I use GFDL. –

Yuo do have that right but that is a right you partialy give up if you want to release something under a free license. Upgradeing to GFDL1.3 is an irrelivance since you can't under the terms of the GFDL stop that. West Mids stations

Hi. Thanks for the note - still tweaking it at the moment. Finished the refs for now. It's a compromise, but if consistency is what is wanted it'll have to do until a better way is developed. I'm currently working on the table layout - although won't be able to do it completely on this computer (I'm at work) as it seems to display differently for everyone else! I like what you've done with the usage stats - looks much better.

Do you think it would be worth making the table smaller to get the pics on the right? If necessary, the 04-05 stats can probably go, especially as 06-07 stats can't be far off now.

Personally, I think the 04/05 figures are useful against the following year, as it indicates the trend (generally upwards) as well as the usage. On the other hand, I don't think the station code is particularly useful, so maybe that could go instead? Going out myself soon, but I'll do some more work on it later.

That's also on my 'to-do' list, along with List of Midland Metro stops. Disused stations will take a lot more work however, as stations such as Sutton Town and Sutton Park, for example, are both missing from the West Midlands stations template, and neither have articles - at the very least they'll need stubs creating, or distinct sections within Sutton Coldfield railway station, and I suspect they are not the only ones.

List of railway stations in Wales is a new list which I think has potential, but I have a number of issues with it - all the station names are in caps for a start. Yet on Earthless you have reverted[6] the removal of earthless.com which isnt associated with the band, even warning the user who removed it[7]. I don't recall what was in Earthless.com, but if you look at the other contributions of Drjonfrockit, it seems that he is trying to use Wikipedia as a platform to air his views about the ownership of the name [8], and making related threats [9]. I don't know whether his claims are correct or not, but obviously Wikipedia is not the correct place for this, and the previous edit he made to Earthless was reverted.[10].

As far as the removal of the link on Earthless goes, I had a look at the website, but could not tell whether it was related to the band or not (it gives the option to download podcasts, so it might well be). However, due to my concerns about the user's other edits, and the fact that he had left no edit summary explaining the removal of the link, I decided to play safe and re-instate the link. I left the standard level 1 good-faith template {{

}} on his talk page, which requests that removals that may be controversial should have some explanation.

I'd love to see the TR article get to GA standard and I'm happy to help in any way I can. I have most of the books that are currently cited as "Bibliography" rather than "References". We should try to use these for inline citations where possible. The history section needs a significant overhaul and expansion, and we could really do with adding pictures of all the carriages. I can certainly help with expanding the article text. Sadly I don't get to north Wales very often, and haven't been to Tywyn in nearly a decade, so I probably can't help with pictures. I've been a member of the Corris Railway Society since the early 80s, so I keep in touch with developments there pretty well. I've had a look at the Talyllyn Railway article. I can't see any problems with it going further to FA standard. My only little gripe is that the references are a bit repetitive, and that in my experience as a final-year student of History, several could be replaced with "ibid., page 45" etc. However, this is only a matter of personal taste, and that I don't really follow it myself on Wikipedia as it gets a bit tedious. It is also nothing that would seriously hamper its potential as an FA. Well done. I'm off to have a look at your comments on the N15 class now.

Ryan is now left with no answer to his question and probably a bad view of us all. I would suggest you've been a tad 'quick with the red pen' on this occasion, and that perhaps you could have explained G8 to us and asked us to 'go and play elsewhere' (on one of our user talk pages).

However, now that you're involved, I wonder what you think about all this. I think Ryanjcole (talk) is using wikipedia as his own personal gallery here and here. The first one, it seems to me, exists on wikipedia for no reason other than as a vanity page. As for the second one, does that guy really justify six images in his article (does he even justify having an article at all - I suspect it was photographer Ryan who started it as a vehicle for his images).

Deletion of Wimba Article

I'm not trying to advertise Wimba and I do not have any affiliation with the company. I am hoping to start an entry on Wimba because of it's widespread use in educational technology. Oh gawd! What has happened here, all I was trying to do was correct a mistake I made when I first created a entry for him. It seems that the correct spelling of his name is without the capital 'D'. I did leave notes on all the discussion pages to this effect, but my attempts to put in redirects etc. have all been reverted. Hope someone can help! Don't worry - think I've got it sorted. It's best to use page move rather than cut-and-paste to rename a page - that way the edit history remains intact. Problems arise when two admins try to chase the same article! —

Dear Tivedshambo

As you and Agathoclea seem to be keeping a watchful eye on me, I wondered if one of you could help me with a little question I have. I’d like to know if there’s any way of hiding the qualifiers you use to distinguish different entries with similar titles, i.e. Tom Macdonald (writer). If not, do you think you could ask someone at Wikipedia if it might be possible to create some kind of command text, such as ‘Title: hide qualifier’, that would do this? Obviously I appreciate the importance of these qualifiers, but I personally think that the overall appearance of pages would be enhanced if they did not actually appear in the entry heading. All of this may well have been mooted elsewhere of course, but as a relatively new user I thought I would just ask.

As far as I'm aware, there's no way of removing the qualifier in the title of an article. You can hide the qualifier in links by using

speedy deletion of Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge redirect page

I'm not married to my redirect pages, but I'm curious as to why this one was deleted. When I was looking for the page for the Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge, I typed it with a capital B on Bridge, and nothing came up, so I figured there was no article. It never occurred to me that the word "bridge" wasn't part of the official name. I think it would be common for people to make that mistake. Speedy Delete of Sparrows Hearne turnpike

You declined the speedy delete of Sparrows Hearne turnpike on the basis that redirects are cheap (agreed). I'd like you to reconsider because it's now been marked as an alternative spelling, which it's not. On maps it's HERNE, in the 1762 Act it's HERNE. It's never been HEARNE. I was going to make a point about it causing ambiguation with a real Sparrows HEARNE in Basildon but on investigation it appears that one's a typo too. Thanks.

I've change it to a redirect from misspelling. The risk of removing it is that if someone who believes it is spelt with an "a" comes along, firstly they won't find it, and secondly, they may create an article with the wrong name, leading to having two articles running in parallel. Another reason for keeping it is that the article was around for some time with the wrong name, so there may be external websites and search engines that point to the redirect. —

Pen-y-Garn & Rhydypennau

Dear Tivedshambo

I thought I’d just let you know that I’ve made some changes to the entries for Pen-y-Garn and Rhydypennau. Firstly as there is a village in Torfaen called Penygarn and a hamlet in Carmarthenshire called Pen-y-garn, I moved the original Pen-y-Garn to Pen-y-garn, Ceredigion. I’ve also changed the second element from having a capital ‘G’ to a small ‘g’, in line with the spelling used by the Ordnance Survey, who appear to have it listed as a ‘village’. I’ve also made the original page into a ‘disambiguation page’, and tried to make all the alterative spellings into redirects. As for Rhydypennau, there turns out to be an area of Cardiff with the same name, so again I’ve moved the original Rhydypennau to Rhydypennau, Ceredigion, made the original a ‘disambiguation page’ and any alternative spellings into redirects. At least I hope I’ve managed to do all of this! Perhaps you would be good enough to give it the once over to make sure?

Talyllyn Railway maps

Hi Tivedshambo. I've managed to convert the three TR maps to SVG format. They look pretty good and are much smaller. There are a couple of issues. One the Template:Talyllyn Map is no longer clickable. Could you take a look at that? The other is that your request to the Graphics Lab is now unnecessary - I thought it would make sense for you to withdraw this if you're happy with the new SVG versions. NBR Page

Hi there, Just want to clear up a few things. I'm the webmaster of the North Bay Railway website, and have been discussing with the managing director the WIKI page for our website. Am not entirely sure what to reference throughs (not very good at WIKI I'm afriad), but the information on that page is incorrect. The CCLR has been associated with the line on a very informal basis, but the line has always been operated and owned by the North Bay Railway Company, since being taken over. What should I reference this to? The manager?!!!

Firstly, I would question whether these edits are "insignificant". Removal of whitespace - yes, and I was skipping pages with just those changes. I must admit I wasn't aware that moving stubs/categories counts as insignificant, and I am forced to wonder why AWB insists on making these changes if it's own rules say they shouldn't be made. Those five edits in particular are insignificant, as are many of the other edits you have made, as they only have removed whitespace or underscores from behind pipes links or other very minor changes which provide no benefit to readers, and very little for editors. Moving stubs and categories is slightly less insignificant, but they don't really provide that much benefit to warrant an edit just making those changes.

The rules state that these changes shouldn't be made on their own, as there are other, much more beneficial changes you can spend your time in making , helping to improve the encyclopaedia for all. Two of these include typo fixing and fixing links to disambiguation pages, both of which AWB can assist you greatly in performing and help improve the encyclopaedia for readers, as well as making these small changes. AWB makes these changes, along with many other useful changes, as they help to tidy up the raw text of a page a bit when made in conjunction with other, more beneficial changes. The real benefit comes when the changes are made over many, many hundreds and thousands of pages, but there are many more other changes you could make at the same time which provide a real benefit to the particular article you have just edited.

I am aware of

WP:DWAP

, but AWB is a powerful tool that can help you make many edits in a very short period of time. If everybody who used AWB did this making very minor edits, then this would start to cause an issue. This is the reason why you have to be approved to use AWB, so that users have a grasp of Wikipedia policies and can make better use of the tool, in a responsible manner and not bring the whole site down.

To be honest, most of the time I find AWB to be so bug-ridden as to be virtually unusable. This is the first time for some time that I've got it working properly, basically by stripping it out of my system completely and reinstalling from scratch. I suspect this will last until the next time they try to update it, as it never seems to auto update itself properly. This is why I tried to make the most of it today, firstly with articles in my watch-list, followed by links from one specific article. As you will see from my edit history, I only use AWB on rare occasions (for the above reason), so I don't think you'll have much to worry about. —

Yes, and so have other people, [19], [20], and yet the bugs, and the pointless necessity of having to update, still remain. To be honest, with respect to the "minor" edits, I think you are making a mountain out of a rather small molehill. AWB is merely a tool, as is Twinkle and various other editing add-ons. It does not give users any additional powers that they do not have anyway, other than speed, and I was extremely careful not to exceed "a few" (which I take rather strictly as three) edits per minute. I think the only necessity for vetting is to prevent it being used for vandalism. Whilst the edits I made were minor improvements, they are after all improvements, and Wikipedia is slightly better as a result. This is, after all, what we are here for. Incidentally, an indirect consequence of using AWB this afternoon was that I found several instances of vandalism in the articles, which I reverted manually (eg [21]). Had I not been using AWB, these would have been missed. —

Vandalism by User:Tropicanmanofthesea

With reference to this - It is indeed vandalism, although somewhat subtle. The version of the article that is being pushed by this editor looks at first glance like a reasonable text, but it is in fact utter nonsense, and the page has been under attack in this way for three months. I assume it is all the same person, though it started as a series of anon IPs and the username was only registered yesterday. I have several times reverted the page to remove the extensive fiction that keeps getting added. I have put a note on the

Just a quick question on dates. Surely this, like most other heritage railway stations that were originally railway stations, had to have closed before it was reopened again for the heritage railway. Hiya. Looking at a good sample of this editors contributions they seem mostly to be okay. I think it's worth keeping an eye on though, or perhaps a friendly heads up to him first of all, before removing the tool? If they then misuse it again it's gone. There's no formal process for discussing Rollback removal, which is probably for the best. Any administrator can add or remove the right. Personally, I'd take exactly your approach and just get another admin's input before making a decision. I got it don't worry.

Like I explained to another user why some of my edits may have gotten out of place was because of my internet and huggle. Lately I've been disconecting here and then unexpectedly. Some times when I make reverts someone else may have already edited. Thats also why I've been undo-ing some of my edits a lot lately.

But anyway I'll try keeping a look out more. Until I can get a better wireless I'll just watch out for vandilsim and page content removal more cautiously. Alai's edit had been mixed with the IP user a few seconds before I made the reverted edit. I don't know wy Huggle reverted both edits. But I'm honastly pointing out that I ment to remove the random IP edit.

Can I suggest you check each revert individually, to ensure that you are reverting the right edit. Remember, whilst vandal fighting is important, it's not a race to see how quickly it can be removed. If a bad edit stays up for a few seconds longer, this is better than losing a good edit. —

I actually did check. But at that moment huggle lagged after I clicked revert edit "to revert my edit" when I should have pressed undo. My internet connection is pretty good. I don't know why it lags. Sometimes I even have to exit and re-open it. I think huggle still has some kind of bug in it. But I don't fully know. I didn't make the program :(.

But honastly I can say I'm still at fault for not pressing the undo button instead.

Copyright Violation Allegations

Hi, I am responding to your claims you made recently on my talk page. You may not be aware that I am the chairman of a rather large rail user group, and either:

1) Have explicit copyright rights from various organisations 2) Have contributed many images to various websites 3) Any images that are from copyrighted sources can be edited, (even if slight), to waive copyright protection

The majority of my images are self-taken photographs, and if you visit the image gallery at my website, www.mcrc.co.nr, you may find some of these images - that does not neseccarily mean that I have to provide evidence that they are my own work. Im sure you will agree that the majority of my images are of rail stations which are fairly hard to visit.

Am I right in assuming that Wikipedia is enforced in association with US Copyright Law and definitions?

Hmmm - the photo certainly appears to be some form of through brake-pipe. Maybe continuous brakes were used in the past, or the wagons were provided with the equipment but it was never used. I can only speculate I'm afraid. The only thing I can confirm is that there's nothing on the passenger stock at present. I believe there is a book in preparation about the railway - this may shed some light when it's published. —

We will have to wait and see. Given the steep gradients, non-continuous brakes are a puzzle. Eritrea would be one of the few places in the world where this still happens. The cabin on the end of the tank wagon does suggest a brake-man. At that filesize from that camera I'd say you've cropped without otherwise affecting image quality. I can't see what value the photographers would add, so (without having seen the original) I'd say the crop has improved it. Given that image quality is presumably the same, I can't therefore see much benefit in putting up the original. As I said at PPR I personally would support it at FPC with a preference to my edit; there are some issues as we've said at PPR, but FPC can be a bit of a lottery at times, so you don't necessarily know. If I had to bet I'd say it probably would not get through successfully largely due to sharpness, but it would get my vote. It is pretty well laid out and clear as to what i9 is to be used for, but I can understand how someone not familiar with copyrights and how press agencies/stock photo agencies work might assume that applying sticking a FUR on something such as these images would be ok and thusly removing a i9 tag because ti doe snot apply to "fair use" tagged images. Perhaps the "This includes images from stock photo libraries..." part is what is not being understaood. Thusly why I suggested you read

Request for help with new posting

Hello Tivedshambo,

Yesterday, I attempted several times to post an article about Akimbo, a notable American rock band.

Sorry for my ignorance. I don't know how to include information that would satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for "notability".

According to the guidelines for articles about musicians, the subject of the article must have been written about in major publications, had tour schedules posted, have published several recordings on notable independent labels, etc. The band has achieved all three of those requrements, and I've made mention of these facts in the article.

I'd appreciate it if you could take the time to explain what more needs to be done to make the article worthy of publishing.

It had been deleted a couple of times before as looking like a typical NN band article and at first glance, that's what it looked like to me. No wikis, "Myspace" tone, etc. Upon looking at it again, there is some notability established further down the article. I was doing a lot of NPP last night and this one may have gotten by me. Railways

Hello Tivedshambo - I am sorry to bother you, but can I ask you your opinion on something before I go raring off and again butt heads with user User:ŠJů? Said user has just "Seecat"ed a number of categories like Category:Railways by country / Category:Railways and subcats like Category:Railways in Germany. He has effectively "sneaked in" an inofficial move of the contents of these cats to "railway lines"/"railway lines by country".

And that after he just recently fought pretty bitterly with me to keep pre-eminent such categories like "Heritage railways" when all I wanted to do was place a concept category above them! Inconsistent of him to now try to remove "railways" cats, but then I sometimes I do wonder whether he appreciates the distinctions between the terms fully. I have done my own mistakes, but at least mine were (mostly) with fully open-for-discussion move proposals and merge proposals rather than this way through the back door.

Now apart from the fact that I believe such changes should be discussed, I am also asking whether that is something that we should support at all. A "railway" could be either a company OR a railway line. A "railway line" is a much more specific thing. By moving all the companies categories into the subcategories, I think we are lumping things incorrectly.

Suspect additions to Bow Street, Ceredigion

Dear Tivedshambo

Somebody has been very busy over the past day or so on the Bow Street, Ceredigion entry. Initially someone called Weblog00 put up some things about the Bryn-y-castell being a “gatehouse” and having an “accompanying coach house” claiming there were “deed of title records and archives held at the National Library of Wales”, all of which sounded rather odd to me, so I reverted this only to find it promptly resubmitted with the comment “There are archives at Nat Lib which indicate the age & use & deeds elsewahere”.

I then asked if a reference to this material could be added, whereby someone (presumably the same person) using the IP address 91.84.205.45 simply put “NLW & RCAHMS” and then claimed that “You should easily be able to view several old (eg; 15th cent) maps at NLW and RCAHMS”. I think it highly unlikely that I am going to find old maps from the 1400s which would show Bryn-y-castell, and further this individual seems to have confused the RCAHMW (The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales) with the RCAHMS (The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland)!!

This same individual has also now removed the comments on Cock and Hen Street and Thread Needle Street, even though these come from a published source, and says that “Having been raised in Bow Street I can't recall anyone using these name for any lane. The cited author discussed several issues with locals, include myself prior to publication”. I don’t know if it’s just me but all of this seems rather suspicious, and I wonder if we have someone here deliberately trying to undermine the authority of Wikipedia’s entries, or someone who genuinely thinks they know something but can not justify their beliefs? I wonder if you could look into things, as I lack the experience to directly challenge this particular contributor. Many thanks.

Many thanks for looking at this Badgernet. Like I say I can’t make out if we do have someone who is actually from the area but simply can’t back up their assertions with facts, or someone who is deliberately making things up? Either way a lot of it sounds rather odd to me, and as for Cock and Hen Street and Thread Needle Street - I don’t see any reason to doubt Eddie Jones on this, and last time I spoke to him he confirmed that these were what the lanes were known as locally. Perhaps it is merely a question of these names now dying out with the older generation, but others I have spoken to are also familiar with them, such as Lord Elystan Mogan (though he called it “Thread and Needle Street”). If there were any maps of the area going back to the 15th century that would be quite a find, but I don’t think there would be any and they would probably not be at the RCAHMW (let alone at the RCAHMS). If this individual can back up what they are saying then that would be really interesting, and could well add to the article, but I really don’t know if it is genuine or not. Maybe you and/or Tivedshambo could keep an eye on this one? Many thanks

Looks like our friend is back questioning the content of the existing article and adding his own unsubstantiated remarks. I really can’t make out what’s going on here – there is evidence that Rhyd-y-castell pe-dates Bryn-y-castell. I have personally seen the map that was noted, and the references for which has now been deleted by this person. I also recall seeing rentals that clearly showed the name change from one to the other. All of this strikes me as very strange behaviour, but I don’t know if you’d call it vandalism?

I too would like to believe we are merely dealing with someone who thinks they know what they are talking about, but who simply cannot give actual references to back up their beliefs. If it is vandalism it is quite sophisticated – claiming to be from the area and being acquainted with one of the cited authors (but at the same time deleting the reference to that author’s work?), as well as adding comments that cannot be quickly substantiated or refuted. It is also odd that they keep jumping to change different aspects of the article, and making wild claims about deeds at the NLW and 15th century maps at the RCAHMS! They certainly seem persistent is putting up their views, I just hope that they are genuine. Anyway, like I said before given my lack of experience I’d be grateful if you’d keep an eye on things.

Thank you for putting up something on the discussion page for this article. I have also now made an appeal to Weblog00/91.84.205.45 there to help by referencing his comments. I see you think he has actually been to the NLW, if that is so then he should be able to specify his sources. But the fact he seems to have confused the RCAHMS and the RCAHMW suggest to me that he is merely presuming the existence of material; such as 15th century maps of the area. If he can add to our knowledge of the history of the area then that would be good, but I’m afraid he is simply deleting things because he has no actual knowledge of them himself. Whilst I cannot personally counter his assertions about Cwmsymlog, Iwan Wmffre would not appear to agree with them. No doubt we will see what his reaction will be, but I just hope he doesn’t keep deleting things because he is merely unaware of something.

Oooppps!!! I didn't realise I'd done that. I was trying to create a similar template on another Wiki to tag articles that have been copied and/or modified from en.wiki to comply with the

Cut & Paste Move of Newmarket and Chesterford Railway

What have you done?

With another editor we have worked on grouping together many articles about this line, added references, we have put together a route map diagram, researched the stations, my collaborator (meant in the best sense) has grouped together the Newmarket stations, in short, we are trying to pull this all together, we have put in links on related articles, checked links, sourced and added new references. When I made this move I considered it carefully; I checked the links and because one was a redirect to another, and there were not many links to either, decided this was the easiest way to go.

Would you just have a quick look at the revision history of emergency medical services as an example, if you have the time, as i think thats a good example of what looks to be simple vandalism (especially as his edit history says 'recategorisation', which is about the only section he hasn't changed!). If you still think this is good faith, then i'll happily take your opinion and keep trying to work through it, but he's not being very open to discussion - his talk page comment was (and i'm paraphrasing, but not much) 'i'm a doctor, and i know more about this than anyone else). Hello Admin. Recently i created an article here about lazer helmets. and this has been deleted.

Please, after reviewing shoei, Schuberth, Suomy ... and if you really want to help me, tell me :

• what makes the above articles notable?
• are these pages based on companies' official website ONLY for refference? they didnt use any other sources, isnt?
• what makes all the above articles more important than article i tried to create?

To make my article based on reliable sources, i tried to add infos from sharp.gov.uk , which site many other articles here in mainspace use as reference,which is an official goverment UK site! But before i complete it, even i have added an {halt} tag, article deleted!

Biagota & translation template

I just recently find that article on english wiki and I realised that it is nothing than a translation of czech article. I saw in a history you removed translation template. When I looked at the elder version, in the list of templates bellow was translation template was as "Template:S-ttl" which sounds me strange. At first I thought it was used some old and now don't using template so I looked for another translate template (and there is my mistake I did not look at the name and only on the syntax) which I used there (the article is just a translation, i worked on the original). Few seconds later I find some bot move it to a discussion page (then I finaly realised I used the same template which was there before). To tell the truth, I really don't understand what it means, why it was moved (by bot or you) to a discussion page (what meaning it has there)? Why it is deprecated template? And which one is the right one?
I am asking you, because you did year ago the same thing like that bot and I don't want to use discussion-page of some bot.

Oh, I did not know that. On czech wiki it is normaly used on the article page and it is consideret as fairness to put it there. It is not mentioned as a reference but as info about the fact, that article is just a translation from other wiki. Czech wiki endeavour to not by just translation and by this is stated this article is not exactly what we want, what cs-wiki is about.

Jeremy Bolwell

Hi,

I'd like to ask for some friendly advice. I have only recently happened upon the above user, through a series of overlinks made to the 'Kettering' article recently. Having reviewed Mr. Bolwell's talk page, it appears that this is not the first time this issue has come up, and I notice that you were embroiled in it previously. You therefore seemed like a good port of call for advice.

I have asked Mr Bolwell to stop overlinking (or at least have been baffled by why it continues), and I have had no real reply. Indeed, there seems to have been a spree of overlinking yesterday, including circular links (obsessive-compulsive personality disorder), and many other links which are of questionable value to say the least.

I don't want it to look like he's being bullied by me or anyone else (an accusation which seems to have been previously leveled against people), but I do feel this frantic overlinking is detrimental to the articles in question, and Mr Bolwell shows little sign of stopping. Of course, there are far worse things he could be doing, and I'm quite sure that his intentions are quite noble, but it does seem to be getting out of hand a little (if yesterday is anything to go by).

Your advice would be appreciated.

Polanski Article

There is a potentially serious problem with the Polanski article. It appears that a large section was lifted from the Honolulu Sun Times without correctly attributing it. Further, the two links that I checked do not reflect to the text, and the HST article appears to be the source of the information for many of the "current" links. I am concerned that the failure to attribute might actually cause Wiki harm. Please check the link I posted (and if I screwed that up, my apologies. I am a newbie). Hello, again. Thanks for the IP exemption, but I'd really like to see the whole IP block removed, as well as the indefinite block on user:Snowdude1492. He has appealed his block, but no one has replied yet. On his contribs page, he's only edited on page other than his own user page: Oxyhydrogen. He basically tried to insert the same material several times. The first time, he cited a youtube video of a newscast. A bot undid that, and I explained to him why youtube videos aren't reliable sources. So he found a legitimate reliable source for the same info, re-inserted the text with the legit source, and THAT edit was tagged as vandalism by User:Arthur Rubin, who failed to AGF. That tag seems completely unjustified, as the edit was adding substantive, relevant, appropriate material, and properly citing a legitimate reliable source.

Generally speaking, I remove uncited information from articles. After all, we need Wikipedia to verifiable and having a large unchunk of totally uncited, unverifiable text in an article essentially makes us look bad. In cases where the article already has a number of sources and we just need to add sources to verify the information, I tend to add maintenance tags. The editor I reverted claims that he is a walking encyclopedia for Asmara and that editors should let readers decide what is true and not without regard to sources. Besides, any information which is challenged has to be verified. By deleting the unsourced info, I obviously challenged the accuracy of the large clump of uncited text. We do not need online sources, but we do need actual sources. There are some pictures of the most well known destinations so with lesser known places there is a great chance that there is no picture currently. Other than places there are almost zero free pictures of people. So anyone remotely notable is a sure hit in that almost certainly yours would be the only picture of them. So instead of giving names of locations, any statue other than Heroes' Square is probably a good find and if there is an event or anything with people like a session of Parliament, you could take pics of the individual MEPs, if you can get in or something it's likely to be the only pic available. I think I ended that comment too early. To clarify - MjRoots needs to learn that there is a difference between being robustly challenged, and being badgered, which also came out at that ANI post. There is disagreement as to how far you can depart from an accepted policy before acceptable POV becomes unnacceptable fringe views. There is also disagreement as to exactly when repetition turns into disruptive badgering, but again, as someone in that ANI pointed out, repetition sometimes becomes a necessary evil when, as happened in that Afd, you get the impression some people are simply not reading the nomination rationale, or are latching on to one part of a recent comment and thinking that encompasses the entire debate. I have as much experience as you, likely more...downhill...you unblocked a user on a 24 harmless block, he deserved it and you unblocked him and after you did that he immediately repeated a violation and so your unblocking was revealed as a good faith mistake and then you only gave him a replacement same block after he had re-violated and the trust you gave him, one week would easily be corr3ct and actually the whole issue would have been better if you had not done anything.

My past history is what is part of my experience and I can be well proud of it, and I am. Also do not accuse me of vendettas as I care less for such irrelevancies. Don't put out and point the finger at your accusers, reflect in a good faith way about your actions. Your admin actions in this case were poor, and helped no one at all, your inability to accept that is the actual issue. When admins make bad calls and attempt to deny it or ignore it and point the finger at other users and issues uninvolved with their actions it is a worthy constructive cause for wikipedia to point it out.

Regarding Hindi Imposition page

Hi,

This is regarding the redirection of the page Hindi Imposition (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Hindi_imposition&oldid=386682273) to Hindu Nationalism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindu_nationalism). There are 3 reasons given for this redirection:

1)The article has very little content

2)It may not meet Wikipedia's neutral point of view requirements

3)It could easily be included in Hindu Nationalism

While I completely agree with reason (1) and partially agree with reason (2), I totally disagree with (3).

Hindi Imposition in India refers to the initiatives by the central government of India to popularize Hindi language through various measures. Many states in Indian republic have protested against. For eg : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Hindi_agitations_of_Tamil_Nadu

Hindu nationalism refers to social and political initiatives to define a Nationhood based on spiritual and cultural aspects of the Indian sub-continent.

Hindi Imposition and Hindu Nationalism are totally different topics. Hence I would strongly suggest to delete the redirect and the original page and request the authors to compose the article more systematically.

All edits by a block-evading sock (in this case an IP sock of a long-blocked editor) are themselves vandalism. These latest edits are part of a long-term pattern of POV-pushing, block evasion, personal attacks, vandalism, and plain disruption by an editor who could not deal with no getting his way. If you look at the history, you will see a series of attacks early last week, which led to two IPs being blocked. This is an extension of that same pattern of vandalism. The convention seems to be that if a station was first opened before 1923, we put it in Category:Former (pre-grouping railway) stations (such as Category:Former Midland Railway stations); if first opened in 1923-47 period, we put it in Category:Former (post-grouping railway) stations (such as Category:Former London Midland and Scottish Railway stations). As I recall, it was a page I deleted in a hurry, and forgot the golden rule of not quoting any of the material in the summary, so that it did appear in the deletion log. I'm fairly sure I flagged this up for oversight at the time, but for some reason it didn't get done. When I was looking through my own deletion log recently, I came across it, and as we now have the ability to remove log entries (something we didn't have in 2008), I did it myself. —
