I think I've fixed the external link the way you wanted. You had the right idea, but the link didn't work due to typos. Here you can see that there was a line break in the middle of the link (before the '.html'), and that caused it not to work. You may have hit the 'Enter' key while typing in the link? And then here your link would have been fine except there was a trailing slash (/) put at the end of the link when there should not have been. But it should work now. HollyAm 18:04, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

You're welcome! Also, I looked at the
Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman into a Redirect page pointing to Cathedral of Saint Joseph the Workman. This way, you can wikilink to either spelling, though it is still preferable to wikilink to the version that avoids the redirection. The rest of the Burke article looked fine to me, but if I missed something, just let me know. HollyAm

That's no problem at all. You don't have to be signed in to edit, after all. Really, asides from the "perks" like being able to talk to people more easily and getting credit for your edits, the only time it's "important" to sign in is for editing things in the [[wikipedia:]] and [[wikipedia talk:]] name spaces, since rightly or wrongly you may be ignored on some of those pages (

WP:RFA spring to mind) if you aren't a signed-in user. The Literate Engineer

If you looked at my talk page and didn't see anything, it was temporarily vandalized this morning. — Kbh3rdtalk 19:20, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

Happy New Year, Richard! Looks like a difficult situation over at the Burke article. Here is my advice; you're probably familiar with much of it already. What's going on is a NPOV dispute rather than vandalism (see Wikipedia:Vandalism#What_vandalism_is_not). It is good that you are striving toward neutral point of view with this article.

I see someone has created a page at

St. Stanislaus Kostka Church (Saint Louis)
page, so it still needs to be dealt with there.

You could

Wikipedia:Revert
for a how-to-revert). If no recent version is acceptable, then you'll have to write it yourself first.

However, someone or someones could disagree with your revert and revert it right back. This creates the

three-revert rule, which means do not revert an article more than three times in a 24-hour period. If the POV version persists, place a {{NPOV}} tag at the top of the article and explain why you did so on the article's talk page. The article may still be POV, but at least the tag will alert readers of this. The goal then is to reach a consensus on the talk page on how to make the article neutral. Notify the editors who you are in conflict and invite them to discuss on the article's talk page. As I saw User:Kbh3rd suggested, a subpage with a working copy is good. Wikipedia:Protection policy
describes having the page temporarily protected and what the criteria must be.

You're doing great by keeping a cool head through what can be a stressful situation. Let me know if I can help or explain further. HollyAm 19:54, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

Re The Diocese of Madison

Yeah, I actually meant to let you know that I started the Diocese of Superior article and then forgot. Someone else created the Green Bay article, which I helped format, and then since the Superior article was the only one left to create, I figured I would go ahead and do so. Good catch on the date and info in the Madison article. I wikified the counties and also added the list of bishops. HollyAm 19:34, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

Episcopal Dioceses in Wisconsin

Richard - Good work on the articles. Thanks for bringing them to my attention. I made a couple minor edits. Please consider including something in each article explainign what Province V is. TMS63112 20:51, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

You left me a note a couple days ago about whether I thought Abp. Burk would be named a Cardinal. . .I don't really know, but I doubt it. St. Louis is one of those diocese (Baltimore is the other that comes to mind) that sometimes has a Cardinal, but not always. We have not had one as Abp. since Cardinal Carberry retired in the early 1980's (he died in about 1998). I think as the church becomes less a European and North American church we will see fewer cardinals from small and mid-sized diocese like STL and more from Africa, Asia, and South America. I also think the controversies over things like St. Stans make it less likely thatBurke would get picked for a red hat. TMS63112 04:29, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi Richard, thanks for the note! Nice job on the Episcopal dioceses and great idea to expand on religion in Wisconsin. Good job with the other articles, also. One of the many things on my "to do list" is to work on Congressmen without articles at

Hello,

Thank you for leting us know about this article. Also I added it to the list of Romania related new articles here. Mihai -talk 18:21, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, I haven't noticed the fact that there were two obituaries. I have corrected the link and added some information (link to Constantin Silvestri and rephrased a little bit the thing about his life in Romania). Mihai -talk 21:24, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi, this is just to let you know that I (finally) read your note on my talk page, and that I appreciate your drive towards accuracy by involving "locals". I'm afraid I don't know of any biographies of her. I've only seen her mentioned, briefly, in books on First Ladies, or on Benjamin Harrison. I agree that it sounds like an interesting story. - Nunh-huh 21:47, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

For a yet-more-interesting marital knot, see Daisy, Princess of Pless. She and her husband had three sons, then divorced and married other spouses. Her husband's second wife divorced him and married his son (who was also, obviously, the son of Daisy), and had two children by him. Thus Daisy's husband's second wife was the mother of Daisy's only grandchildren.... - Nunh-huh 21:53, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
I only know of a few of Mary Harrison's descendants, and I don't know who married Mary Jane Walker (or if there's another granddaughter I don't know of.) But it seems a distant enough relationship to be comfortable. I guess things were different in those days! - 22:10, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the info on Charles Calhoun's book. Is there any additional info there on relatives or ancestors? If so, I'd try to find a copy to look at. - Nunh-huh 14:33, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

MRS. CLEVELAND AND PROF. PRESTON WED
President Hibben Officiates at Ceremony in the Princeton University Mansion.
ONLY FEW RELATIVES THERE
Date Advanced Because of Prof. Preston's illness—Her Daughter and His Brother Attend Them.
Special to The New York Times.

PRINCETON, N. J., Feb. 10.-Surrounded only by members of their immediate families and three friends. Mrs. Frances Folsom Cleveland, widow of the late President Grover Cleveland. and Prof. Thomas Jex Preston, Jr., of Wells College, Aurora, N. Y., were married this morning in the executive mansion of Princeton University. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. John Grier Hibben, President of Princeton, and a longtime friend of the bride and bridegroom. After the wedding breakfast, at which President and Mrs. Hìbben were the hosts, the couple held an informal reception at Prospect.

Mr. and Mrs. Preston left President Hibben's home in a touring car shortly after 1 o'clock, and it was reported that they were on their way to Princeton Junction to board a train for Florida. To-night, however, they were still at the Cleveland home in Princeton, and declined to make public their plans.

The Preston-Cleveland nuptials came as a surprise to scores of the former Mrs. Cleveland's friends in Princeton. Although planned during the past three days in the very heart of Princeton University, not one of the students had any Intimation that the wedding was to occur to-day.

It was announced by Dean Andrew F. West, head of the Princeton graduate school, that the element of mystery which pervaded the preliminary plans for the wedding was due to an illness of Mr. Preston that had led his physician to prescribe a period of rest in Florida. That the date for the ceremony was rather hastily decided on is evident from the fact that only last Saturday Mrs. Henry Edward Perrine, the mother of the bride, who has lived at the Cleveland home for several years, left for Bermuda, to be gone for two months.

Mr. Preston reached Princeton from New York only half an hour before the ceremony this morning. He was accompanied by his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jex Preston of Aurora, and his sisters, Mrs. Florence Preston Jones and Mrs. John Hoppen; Mr. Hoppen of South Orange and his brother, Harry Preston of New York City. They went directly to Prospect, the university executive mansion, where Mrs. Cleveland and Mr. Preston spent a few minutes receiving the servants of the Cleveland household In the hall.

At 10:30 o'clock the bride-elect walked to the main drawing room of the Princeton mansion on Mr. Preston's arm. Mrs. Cleveland was attired in an unadorned white silk gown cut along simple lines, and carried a bouquet of white Killarney roses. Mr. Preston wore the conventional black frock suit.

In performing the ceremony President Hibben used the Episcopal service. Those who were in the room aside from the relatives who accompanied Mr. Preston to Princeton were Miss Esther Cleveland, who was born in the White House and who made her début on Nov. 18, at which time Mrs. Cleveland made her first appearance since her husband's death attired in colors: Miss Marian Cleveland. Who is attending school at Bryn Mawr, Penn.; Francis Cleveland, the late President's youngest son: President and Mrs. Hibben, and Dean Andrew F. West of the Princeton Graduate School. Richard Cleveland, the third child of Mrs. Cleveland, is at school at Phillips Andover Academy, and although notified of the wedding was unable to attend. Miss Esther Cleveland and Harry Preston stood by the couple as the service was read.

The Prospect dining room was decorated for the wedding breakfast with narcissus and white Killarney roses, the latter being Mrs. Preston's favorite flower.

Shortly after noon several of Mrs. Cleveland's friends and neighbors called to offer their congratulations. Some of them also knew Mr. Preston, who only a few years ago took a Master of Arts degree at the university. Among these callers were President Francis Landey Patton of the Theological Seminary, a former President of Princeton University, with Mrs. Patton; George B. McClellan. ex-Mayor of New York City and now a Princeton Professor, and Mrs. McClellan, and Jesse Lynch Williams, the author, and Mrs. Williams.

The bride and groom were borne away through a shower of rice in the steel-gray touring car which has for a long time been known as the Cleveland automobile. The former bride of the White House, though 48 years old, looked little more than 30 as she waved a happy goodbye to friends on the Hibben lawn. Mr. Preston is 50 years old and a six-footer. His bearing as he stepped briskly into the waiting machine was not that of a man who needed to go to Florida for his health.

Despite Mr. and Mrs. Preston's refusal to divulge their plans, it is believed that they will soon leave for Florida. Mrs. Preston will not attend the inaugural ceremonies on March 4. It is said that Miss Esther Cleveland will join her grandmother, Mrs. Perrine, at Bermuda within the next week.

Bishop McGavick

You do not understand, for sorting purposes Wikipedia requires that all names starting with Mc, for instance, be sorted as "Mac". See the below from Martin McGuinness' edit page:

Please use Macguiness, ie with an 'a' and a lowercase 'g', to assist category sorting

Also, names starting with O' (as in O'Neill would be sorted as Oneill, Ocallaghan, Obrien, etc).

Marlboro, Massachusetts automatically redirects to the correct spelling : Marlborough, Massachusetts
.

Yours, Conrad Falk 14:25, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Also, btw, since you probably deal with a lot of people whose surnames start with "Mc" or "O'", please remember the above and spread the word. Thanks!! Conrad Falk 14:29, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Laura Ingalls Wilder article

Hello, Richard:

Can you explain to me how Lund, Wisconsin, an unincorporated community in it's own right, located some 8 miles north of Pepin, can be "in the town of Pepin"? That does not make sense. Township, maybe, yeah - but a town cannot be "in a town" eight miles south.

Regards,

Melos Antropon 13:13, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

I can answer this one for I have traveled all the way across the state and visited the site. The replica house on the plot of land is on a road all by itself, so it's not located in EITHER Lund or Pepin. It's most likely in the Township of Pepin. It is located closer to Lund than Pepin. Royalbroil 03:00, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
Lund and the LIW birthplace are both in the Town of Pepin. Wisconsin does not have civil townships at all, so there is no "Township of Pepin"; the Wisconsin version of such an entity is a "town". I see that RFD has changed the LIW article to say that she was born "near the village of Pepin", which is certainly correct. Her birthplace is in the Town of Pepin and also near the Village of Pepin, Wisconsin. Lund is also in the Town of Pepin. All unincorporated parts of Wisconsin are in a Town, and that's the one containing her birthplace. So - Pepin is the name of a Town and also the name of a Village, and both are distinct. Her mother was born in the Town of Brookfield, in what is today the City of Brookfield. Confusing, isn't it? Merenta 18:20, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

You are correct that St. Mary's deserves to be in that article, but what about the other churches? Maybe you could complete the section.

I have spent several hours on the article about Holy Hill (near Milwaukee). I think this would be a nice article to feature on Did You Know for WikiProject Wisconsin. It is eligible since it was expanded starting from a few sentences. Do you have any sources that could help expand this article since you work a nearby diocese? I will qualify under the June 19th date (in international time), and it would need to be featured within 5 days. I would appreciate your help! Royalbroil 03:14, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

I have nominated the article for DYK. I was actually hoping that you would collaborate with me and use your sources to expand the article. I have used inline citations, so I would appreciate if you would cite anything that could be contested too (use {{Cite book}} for the book). I have retitled the section from "Sources" to "Additional reading", which is accurate right now since it wasn't used as a source. Do you have the ISBN # on the book? I have asked you because I know you are knowledgable about Catholic things. I am Catholic too, but I am not familiar with Wikipedia's styles/methods on Catholic things since don't work on many Catholic articles. Would you please proofread the article for any spelling errors, poorly worded statements, or bad wikilinks? I appreciate your help. Royalbroil 16:25, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Regarding this [1] edit on Mayo Medical School

Can you provide a reference for that? I knew there was an affiliation with the PA program but was not aware of one with the medical school. Also, can you state the exact nature of the affiliation? The clinic itself has affiliations with hundreds of universities, but if its specific to the medical school it would be helpful to know exactly what it is. Thanks! Gtadoc 21:47, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for adding a reference, I'm wondering if it might be a good idea to create a seperate page for the medical school (which does not include the PA school) and the larger College of Medicine (which includes PA, PT, Dentists, and residency/fellowships. Gtadoc 17:09, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

As a member of WikiProject Catholicism I wanted to inform you that some members of Wikipedia believe that most Roman Catholic Bishops do not merit an article on Wikipedia. County templates?

From one geography-concentrated editor to another :-) Do you do any work with navigational templates? Of all states that have counties without navboxes, Wisconsin is the most complete: only ten counties lack them — Taylor, Trempealeau, Vernon, Vilas, Walworth, Washington, Waupaca, Waushara, Winnebago, and Wood. Could you create and place these templates, or find a Wisconsin-centered editor who could? Thanks! And by the way: you can use my

county templates subpage to check on how many remain. Nyttend
02:17, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the note about Richfield and the other communities; I've made the changes. Let me ask: do you know how properly to edit county templates? If not, I'd advise that you work with them in a sandbox; I don't know anything of coding, except what I've discovered from experience, and I've found it very easy to work with these ones. It would be easier for you if you could make the changes instead of having to wait until I was able to do it :-) Nyttend (talk) 20:04, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
You definitely didn't wait long to get working :-) One thing, however: since the point of a county navbox is to provide navigation from any of those places to any of those places, if you find a community that's not listed, would you be willing to add the template onto the community article? Nyttend (talk) 21:36, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Good job :-) I don't know much about other kinds of templates, so it might not be as easy to do those ones, but any US County Navbox-based template works the same way. Nyttend (talk) 19:11, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Hewitt

That editor is inexperienced and overenthusiastic, needs some help. & I explained to him on his talk page -- a number of us have been trying to offer assistance to him--dont take it personally. people do this to one or two towns a day, but usually not to such a substantial article. By the way, when you place a hangon, it is a good idea to give an explanation on the talk page as well just to make sure. -- (if you are wondering at the town I edited, a close relative lived there) DGG (talk) 22:53, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

You left me a message about vandalism you reverted on the

NHLs in WI

Hi RFD, thanks for ur note of appreciation on List of National Historic Landmarks in Wisconsin. I was happy to fill it out as far as it went. Your addition to the Hamlin Garland House is helpful already. As you see, many of the articles are very short now, the List itself is missing short text descriptions and pictures for most of the individual NHLs; if u are inspired to develop any of it further, please be bold and go ahead! I myself am focussed more on List of National Historic Landmarks in New York right now. Cheers, doncram (talk) 19:00, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Should I add a picture of the ice racing? I went there on Saturday. I took pictures of the cars racing and some poorer ones in the pits. Royalbroil 13:42, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Um, you mean ice racing, right? Should I use a great picture of a car(s) racing or one from the pits? I have another picture of an odd looking racecar that has a house in Tilleda in the background. Which of these sounds the most encyclopedic? Royalbroil 15:49, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Would you look over the most recent edit to the article. I have been reverting the change as unsourced and controversial. Would you give your opinion? Oconto County template

With the Oconto County template, there was one small error that you made: you forgot to add the line "body4" to the template. Compare the current state of the template with your first edition. And don't think yourself stupid: it's an easy error to make, and I've done it plenty of times. Nyttend (talk) 19:27, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Crestview

Interestingly, there are two Crestviews in Wisconsin: one in Rock County, just north of Beloit (details here U.S. Geological Survey Geographic Names Information System: RFD/Archive/ 1) and the one you asked about (details here U.S. Geological Survey Geographic Names Information System: RFD/Archive/ 1). There's no real reason to delete a placename — even if it doesn't deserve an article, it should remain as a redirect. I'd advise you to do five things:

  1. Move Crestview to
    Crestview, Racine County, Wisconsin
  2. Merge Crestview's verifiable contents into the village article, making the previously-existent article into a redirect
  3. Create Crestview, Wisconsin as a disambiguation page
  4. Create a small page for the other Crestview and add it to the county template (if it's not within a village or city) or a redirect (if it is)
  5. Tell me when you're done, since "Crestview, Racine, WI" isn't a likely title, and no real reason to keep as a redirect, so I'll delete it.

Hope this is helpful! Nyttend (talk) 14:42, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

This was my first trip there, it's a couple of hours from DeKalb (where I live) and I am originally from Bloomington, Illinois so I never had the opportunity to visit before. Pretty much wanna live there now, I'm the artsy weirdo writer type so I think I would find it inspiring, a job at the Dubuque newspaper and I'd be set. :) The Washburne family is indeed quite interesting, the Elihu house wasn't open when I was there but I went through the Grant House and then drove to Elizabeth and went through the Apple River Fort, I went all over the county and I can't wait to get back there! Took a lot of pics and am working on the Galena Historic District (which unbelievably has no article) in my sandbox. IvoShandor (talk) 20:46, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

I replied on my talk page - the town article had been incorrectly redirected to the village in 2006 instead of being left as 2 articles since they are actually separate government units. I also left a message hoping to break up the two. When I think of Fremont, I think about the sturgeon spawning on the Wolf River in spring. Orphans

Hi RFD. I think you may be either confusing

orphans with dead-end pages or misunderstanding the orphan criteria. Articles that don't have at least three links to them are considered orphans. For those purposes, links from disambiguation pages, lists, and pages not in mainspace do not count as links. Details are at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Orphanage#Criteria. Would you please read that and stop removing orphan tags form articles that actually are orphaned? If you'd like to remove the tags, please consider de-orphaning the articles first. Thank you. -- Avocado (talk

Seeing those towns that you've added to templates that Avocado tagged: were they deleted from the county articles some time before the county templates were made? It would seem odd that they got left off somehow otherwise. Nyttend (talk) 01:39, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
I do not know if they were deleted from the county article. That possibility exists.Thank you-RFD (talk) 10:15, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Towns vs. villages/cities

I think it's important to note a well-sourced proof since there has been considerable confusion with non-Wisconsinites lately on the topic. My proof is New Holstein, Wisconsin versus New Holstein (town), Wisconsin. I took a picture of the town's hall and garage. The photo clearly says Town of New Holstein Hall and Garage. This photo was taken almost one mile north of the city on Tecumseh Road about 0.1 miles east of Wisconsin Highway 57 [3]. I recently added a paragraph on the city article from a book source that talks about how the city was originally named Altona, but that the stop on the railroad was named New Holstein because their was a similarly named post office in Altoona, Wisconsin. The city became renamed after the town that surrounded it! So there's proof on both articles of the difference. I can take a picture of the city hall if someone wants more photographic proof. I drove by it that same day and I took a picture of a historic marker next to the city hall. Another clearly labeled photographic proof is the Chilton city hall versus Town of Chilton town hall. Point anyone to my current post if they are confused about the difference. Royalbroil 17:19, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm glad that you enjoy these photos! I have been taking pictures of some the town halls in towns as I have been driving by them. I took pictures of most of the cities last year. I do go to different places in my other travels/vacation. I get out a lot this time of year driving to racetracks. I have gone to 11 different racetracks so far this year from Wausau and ice races at Tilleda to Jefferson to Luxemburg. Racing season starts around May 1st. Royalbroil 18:17, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
In my mind, it would have been easier if WP:Wisconsin had decided to leave the city and village articles as "_____ (city), Wisconsin" or "_____ (village), Wisconsin"... I came here because I had a question: do you watch all of Wisconsin's town articles? I appreciate your tagging the RPC of Vernon; any local sources on the place? As you can see, I have plenty of information on the congregation, but virtually nothing on the building after the congregation disappeared. Nyttend (talk) 00:26, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Good job on your recent edits to Wisconsin articles. You catch everything that I do! (That's a good thing). I did upload a lot of photos recently, eh? I do agree that Wabeno does have the best water in the state! I took those pictures recently and I was easily convinced. I've definitely traveled the state enough to make a valid judgment. Did I ever tell you that I used a highlighter on a state road map when I turned 16 and highlighted every road that I had been on up until then, which consisted of driving down the Wisconsin River to Prairie du Chien, up the Mississippi to LaCrosse, and back home by Lake Winnebago? Since then, whenever I travel I highlight the road that I just took after I'm done traveling for the day. The highways on southern and eastern halves of the state are about 85% highlighted, and the northwest quarter is about 50% covered. Lots of county roads are highlighted too. I wish you could see it - it's a work of art. Royalbroil 00:04, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

I agree, you should be a bit more aggressive about giving out warnings. I love to give them the
WP:UTM templates when I see no good editing history. That way they are given progressively more severe warnings and it is traceable to the level 3 and 4 warnings. I would have given a level 3 "Introducing deliberate factual errors" warning for the recent vandalism on your userpage. Your warning comes across more like a level 1 or 2 slap on the wrist warning instead of a STOP NOW warning. Vandalism blocks and indefinitely blocks come after a progression of more severe warnings which go unheeded. If it's a well-established or at least somewhat constructive contributor, then you should give the personal messages like you did in that case. I agree with your reverts to the Fredonia, Wisconsin article, and the removal of the external link farm from the Lake Geneva, Wisconsin article. The only external links that I feel are appropriate for a city are the official city website and the chamber of commercial. Royalbroil

More on towns vs. unincorporated communities

Sigh, it's happening again. There's yet another thread, at least this time the contributor understands the difference between a town and an unincorporated community (I think). He/she wants proof from the Blue Book, a county or town website, etc. that there's some (any) unincorporated community inside a town where both have the same name. Do you know any examples from strong sources? I used google maps and my official 2001/2002 state highway map on Townsend (community) vs. Townsend (town). It's located in Oconto County on WIS 32 and County T. Royalbroil 02:54, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

CDPs

Thanks for the note: I tracked down several problematic edits by two IPs, reverting everything that wasn't acceptable, and placing notes on the talk pages of the two IPs. Don't feel hesitant about reverting once or twice: it's plainly against consensus, so an edit war in this case is restoring the standard format. If you think you're approaching 3RR, either blatantly or in spirit, ask me. And also, as Royalbroil noted before, don't hesitate to leave warning templates: as these two IPs have already been notified that they're going against the standard format, please ensure that they continue to be told if they continue to cause problems. Nyttend (talk) 17:24, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

The same person keeps coming back, reverting my edits and giving me a personal attack on my talk page, but with a different IP address. It's obvious that it's the same person: although I left one message on one IP talk page and another on another talk page, this third IP treats the messages that I left as if I'd left it for the third IP, and the third IP has blanked the talk pages of the other two. Please check up on the CDPs frequently: I don't want to get close to a 3RR situation myself. Moreover, since the person is obviously the same — apparently a dynamic IP — if you continue to see any IPs doing this, please issue warnings to any of them as if it were all the same IP or a single user. I understand - a wikibreak is a good idea for you right now to let everything cool down. Let me know if you'd like your userpage (but not talk page) semiprotected. If these edits introduce factual inaccuracies like stating that Jesuits aren't a Roman Catholic order, then they can be cleaned up when you return. There is no time limit for completing Wikipedia! Wordsmithing might need to be done to make everyone happy. And thanks for the update, Nyttend. This situation can't continue like it is because it's wasting too many people's time. Royalbroil 22:24, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for making me aware of the problems on his article. You need to be more aggressive in clear cases of people violating

WP:BLP. WP:BLP is a very strong policy that you can base reverting on, even if you need to break the 3 revert rule. Undoing an edit that you think violates BLP won't get you into trouble. User:Jimbo Wales has been extremely specific about that. You can always bring up your concerns at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard, which gets LOTS of attention. You don't need to wait for me to be online. I left messages on the article's talk page and on the other user's page. Feel free to bring it up to User:Orangemike or any other admin if that makes more sense. In this case, it might have been easier to find a reliable source to source the edit, because I have a feeling that there's some out there. Royalbroil

Thanks for doing the article, I'm glad to see some of the important writers on the war getting articles. It was always my intention to stub the major writers, especially those from the 19th century, but I never got around to it. I read Wakefield's 1834 history of the Black Hawk War in my research for the topic improvement we did. Very interesting. I always found all the old histories interesting. It's fun to compare both interpretation and language to the modern day literature. Thanks again. You've been more than helpful on the Black Hawk War for awhile now. :-)--IvoShandor (talk) 01:15, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

I guess you didn't do the article. Sorry, but you've been more than helpful. :-) thanks again. Sorry I am a bit off lately. Heh.--IvoShandor (talk) 14:24, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
Looks good, I gave the article a once over just for good measure. I looked but I don't have any sources compiled on Gratiot's Grove. I have Kerry Trask's 2006 book on the Black Hawk War it has a little bit on the grove but not much. It might have some sourced mentions in some of the other Black Hawk War articles I've worked on, and then you could pour over those sources to see if there is anything further, that might be a good place to start. --IvoShandor (talk) 16:00, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
Alright here's what Trask says (paraphrased). And a citation: Trask, Kerry A. Black Hawk: The Battle for the Heart of America, Henry Holt: 2006, ().
  1. P. 62: Gratiot's Grove is one of eleven mining and smelting towns that sprang up in Wisconsin considered "most significant".
  2. P. 104: Henry Gratiot had a large mining and smelting operation at Gratiot's Grove, which was located just north of the Illinois-Wisconsin border. In March 1831, Gratiot was appointed sub-agent to the Winnebago for the region south of Prairie du Chien.
There's a bit more on pp. 229-231, mostly having to do with the town's involvement in the Black Hawk War. Dodge stopped there, along with others in the command structure, it role is important but peripheral. I'll see if I can dig up more, if you know the county it's in, most counties have old county histories, often available in full on Google Books, or at the local library. --IvoShandor (talk) 16:09, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
You probably know about this but I have a Black Hawk War "project" of sorts in my user space: User:IvoShandor/Black Hawk War, there is a template off to the right that you can navigate the various project pages and you can feel free to add your name amongst the participants on the page linked above. There's quite a bit compiled and you are free to use the space at will. You can add content to any of the pages, you may find the creations needed subpage helpful, as well as a good place to compile information. Don't worry too much about format of the pages where you add content, I can always come by and tweak it later. --IvoShandor (talk) 16:27, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
Sounds good. I might also suggest Patrick Jung's newish book - "The Black Hawk War of 1832", I haven't read it yet but have been perusing it on Google Books, looks like a pretty decent account of the war. There is also available, full view on Google Books, the public domain 1881 History of Lafayette County, just search Gratiot's Grove on the right. Wasn't sure if you'd seen that yet, but it seems to have some useful information. Good luck. :-)--IvoShandor (talk) 17:38, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
You can probably add the WP WI template to the Abe article, I'm pretty sure he made his way into Wisconsin near the end of the war. The article is still missing some info, so it should become clearer as i progress.--IvoShandor (talk) 00:34, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

(unindent)Also, sorry, I didn't mean to upstage you but I had to revert your change on Paw Paw. Stacy's wasn't actually in Paw Paw, that was the only problem. In addition, I hope you saw the photo I added to John Wakefield's article, I have one more that is public domain that I will add to Commons tonight, it is only slightly different though.--IvoShandor (talk) 00:55, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Consolidations

Thanks for the notice! I've updated the Minnesota township article, along with the county article and the county template. I'm not entirely sure what to do with the village/town consolidation. Isn't there already one town/village consolidation? I'm strongly inclined to believe that there is, but I've not a clue what its name is or in what county it's located. A similar situation has occurred in New York, but again I don't remember name or county. In both situations, since it's both a village and a town, the template lists it on both lines. If you could find me the name of the Wisconsin village/town, or if you could prove that I'm mistaken, I'll be quite appreciative :-) Nyttend (talk) 00:34, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

So there's no town there at all anymore? Is it somewhat similar to a paper township in Ohio? Are you meaning that the situation is like Lordstown, Ohio? I'm yet a little confused, despite your explanation — not complaining about the explanation, just somewhat unfamiliar with Wisconsin law. Nyttend (talk) 13:57, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
That's not what I meant to ask; sorry for not explaining myself. Let me tell you what I think the situation is, and then please tell me where I'm wrong — the town decided to incorporate as a village, and by Wisconsin law, when all the area of a town is occupied by a village or city, the town ceases to exist. How does this sound? Nyttend (talk) 14:13, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
And one more thing — what do you think about what I've done just now? Sorry for asking so many questions; I don't want to make mistakes without someone knowing about them. Nyttend (talk) 14:17, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
By the way, I found the New York consolidation — see Harrison, New York. Nyttend (talk) 14:38, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks: I understand now. I had been confused by the term "consolidation", because this made me think that it was both a town and a village. Nyttend (talk) 22:52, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
By the way, seeing your comments at ThaddeusB's talk page (thanks for helping!), I wanted to note — most Ohio townships do have elections, etc., and the "paper townships" that don't are altogether nonexistent in effect. See Defunct townships of Cuyahoga County, Ohio for what I mean — for example, Parma Township officially exists, but nobody really knows that. However, anywhere where even a tiny bit of township remains (see Chagrin Township, Cuyahoga County, Ohio), there's a standard township government, just as with the townships that have small bits or no bits incorporated as cities or villages. Thank you very much for your find! I changed the cite to the zoning map of Greenville. For some reason Greenville's boundaries don't show up on Yahoo Maps, making me think that the area was unincorporated.

adding articles to "wikipedia projects: agriculture"

hi,
I noticed you just added an article I created to "wikipedia project: agriculture". FYI, I'm creating hundreds of articles on agriculture using content from a public-domain glossary published by a government research organization. You might want to look at the articles I've created to see whether any of these fit your project (or a related project). http://toolserver.org/~soxred93/pages/index.php?name=Agradman&namespace=0

The thing that they all have in common is the following wiki text in the "references" section (i.e. maybe you can generate a bot to do this for you)

*Adapted from [http://ncseonline.org/nle/crsreports/05jun/97-905.pdf CRS Report for Congress: Agriculture: A Glossary of Terms, Programs, and Laws, 2005 Edition - Order Code 97-905], a document in the public domain.

I noticed that you removed the history of the diocese because of copyright concerns. I'm glad you pay attention to that issue because it's an important one. However, if this is the material whose copyright you thought was violated, there seems to be some misunderstanding. That edition of the Catholic Encyclopedia was published 1907-1912, meaning that its copyright protection has expired. In fact, at one time the entire encyclopedia was a WP wikibook; I'm not sure if it still is. Basically, anything published in the U.S. before 1923 is in the public domain because of copyright expiration. A good place to look for information on copyright expiration dates is the Cornell Copyright Information Center. I'm adding the diocesan history back into the article, because I think it's safe to do so. Thanks for paying attention to copyright issues. --

I DIDN'T SAY HE WASN'T BORN IN DODGE COUNTY!!!! What I said was that the citation you inserted doesn't say he was born in Dodge County. AND IT DOESN'T! All it says is that he was born in "Woodland, Wisconsin". From that you CAN'T infer that it means Dodge County; it could just as well mean Sauk County. Fortunately, I found a source that does say he was born in Dodge County: the index to his birth record. I added it. (I even added it to the Addie Joss article.) Please read it. Citation template

Hi, RFD. It's sometimes a bit of a juggle deciding which citations-needed template to use. For example, I used to use 'unreferenced' on rare occasions, but then had to change it if I added references later in the day. I started using 'citations-missing' most of the time a few weeks ago because it makes it easier on all concerned. But my general feeling is that it's more important to call attention to a problem than to worry too much about how, because I'd rather spend the time solving one or two. Less about form and more about perform.
In the case of the Berrigan article (which I'm guessing elicited your comment), it's not so much that it needs *more* citations for verification than it needs *lots and lots of citations* because -there are very few-. And, IMHO, the subject deserves the best work. Twang (talk) 21:21, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

Royalbroil 12:12, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
Wow, I did good! I got over 500 pictures of communites starting from Dodgeville, then west and up the Mississippi River from Prairie du Chien to Cochrane with a drive through Winona, Minnesota for some soda (one of my childhood jokes was getting soda in Minnesota). Then west from Fountain City, Wisconsin to Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. I don't know where to start with La Crosse because I got some many pictures there. I might need to email some to you so that you can identify some of the places. Too bad the Hixon house was closed, I was going to tour it. I got to speak with one of the actors during the history days downtown. The races at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway were good but too cold. I recognized a bunch of drivers from many other racetracks from this year. This, the 33th track of 2009, might be the last of the year. Fortunately I got a few okay pictures of Dick Trickle walking through the race cars before the Dick Trickle 99 race. The Swarthout was interesting, mass at the cathedral was special, but the best part was touring the Rose Chapel. One of those pictures is one of the best pictures that I've ever taken. Great pictures from Granddad Bluff, especially the overview of UW-La Crosse! I already spend several hours renaming and identifying pictures. I bet there'll be over 100 pictures to upload. I would have loved meeting too, but the other people that I came with vetoed it. We improvised the mass time and almost everything else on the trip. I even went to the track on Friday night instead of Saturday night because on Friday it looked like Saturday would be washed or snowed out. Maybe we could meet if you ever come to the Fox Valley because then I could come on my own. Maybe I'll come to La Crosse's race weekend next year to catch the Saturday program and we could arrange something then. Royalbroil 01:16, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
I marked the photos that I took. I'll add a picture of Western Hall at UW-La Crosse and a view of UWL from Granddad Bluff. I have a poor photograph of the interior of the cathedral in La Crosse, but I don't think I can upload it because it's too new and might infringe on the architect's work. Homer Dopp

Thank you very much for the information RFD. It was not a name I knew. I will inform family members :). I did a check in google and that must be Homer Roger Dopp mentioned here [7] born in Wisconsin in 1875 to Amos Dopp&Mary Moyes. Apparently, there was a contemporaneous namesake living in or around Amsterdam, NY who lost a son in Belgium in Jan. 1945 [8]. Some more info on Wisconsin H. Dopp (combined with a Dopf branch, who kept the German language spelling) could be found at [9] I guess. I will search again. Regards. Cretanforever (talk) 07:09, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

I'll check that. Thanks for the feedback. Cretanforever (talk) 17:03, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
That was very interesting RFD. I had the time to check it now and thank you very much and sincere congratulations. :) I gave the tip (and the links) to a lot of people. In all likelihood, contact between New England Dopps (my branch of the family) and those of Wisconsin was broken sometime across the 20th century but it's good to know that at least two people of the name made a name there.

Going into details over the name, my grandfather, R.D.Dopp, was a prominent name in Connecticut education (whole sections of the family seem to have gone into education, both in Wisconsin and New England:). Before that, he was in the military glider troops during World War II, flew in one of these (Waco CG-4), missed the D-Day because he had -luckily, one may say- broken an ankle twice slightly before, but kept on in it afterwards. I finally got around to uploading a bunch more from that trip. I still have probably 100 pictures to upload from various trips. I'm really happy with the pictures from Perrot State Park. Some day I may nominate that picture of Trempealeau Mountain for that Wisconsin State Parks calendar for their "Friends" association. I submitted a few in 2008 but didn't hear anything.

I took today as a vacation day - time to leave and tour the most famous Appleton historic home. I've never been inside even though I started the article about it (it appeared on the main page for DYK). Cheers!Royalbroil

I started articles for Silica, Wisconsin and St. Peter, Wisconsin. I'm pretty sure that they're in the town of Taycheedah but couldn't verify in the source that BaronLarf found online. Please verify if you can. Royalbroil 02:50, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism reversion?

What's up with this reversion? I think I'd make a couple of changes, but I certainly wouldn't call it vandalism. -Freekee (talk) 02:18, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

I'd make a lot of changes in tone and I'd challenge some of the content as being unsourced. I wouldn't call it vandalism, though. The anon does appear to be knowledgeable about Grafton (especially about village hall) and some of the editing is constructive. Vandalism is an ugly word that I try not to use too much - but it's hard not to some times. In my mind, if anything in the edit is usable, or done in good faith, then you shouldn't call it vandalism. I know that you can't undo the edit summary, so don't worry about it or let it cause you stress. I've had several edit summaries that I wish I could take back! That's what happens when you've been here as long as we have. Please chalk it up as a mulligan and don't worry about it. The best thing to do would be to edit some of the content back into the article, especially if you can verify it. Royalbroil 01:12, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the congrats :-) No complaints about ratings; I've only ever once rated an article myself, since the ratings (other than GA/FA) really don't mean that much to me. Nyttend (talk) 18:41, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Are you positive that it's located in Winnebago? The source doesn't support it, and I've always considered it part of Oshkosh. I've always heard that Winnebago, Wisconsin is a former community that is now part of Oshkosh and that it's former zip code is now used by Oshkosh for their PO Boxes. On this map you can see that it's located in 54901, which is the same zip code as UW-Oshkosh. The institute is the green dot near North Asylum Bay. Hearsay from me doesn't mean much. I'd appreciate if you would do some more research and see what you can dig up. Royalbroil 03:19, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

Back again, the zip code is:54985 in Winnebago, Wisconsin.[10]. Also I look at the legal notices for 2009 about water and sewer matters they were to thw various real estate parcels of the Winnebago Mental Health Institute was being in the town of Oshkosh. Thanks-RFD (talk) 19:10, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
I don't know what to say to you which is why I didn't say anything. I couldn't find proof that Winnebago is really annexed by Oshkosh. So I guess it should be left as is for now. If you find anything down the road, please update it... Cheers! Royalbroil 00:49, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

Wisconsin recent changes list

Just to let you know, I'm currently in the process of cleaning up Wikipedia:WikiProject Wisconsin/Wisconsin recent changes. It used to be a list that only took about 20 minutes to update (using Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:WikiProject_Wisconsin), but it got messed up when Dual Freq added hundreds of articles (here and here) that had the word "Wisconsin" in them but did not have the template on the talk page. So when I tried to update the page in Nov. 2008 and Dec. 2009, these would all be removed. When I looked at some of these articles, many of them have nothing to do with Wisconsin; some have the word "Wisconsin" in their references, etc. So I've been going through each of the added articles (by first letter) and either adding the template to the talk page or removing the article from the "Wisconsin recent changes" list. I've gotten to R, and should be done in the next couple of days.

I say this because I don't want you to feel like you have go through the trouble of adding individual articles (like Dacada) to the list; if they have the template in the talk page, they will be added to the list when I re-run the update after finishing the cleanup. (Though you're welcome to, of course.) ((Also, my apologies for just deleting your entire user talk page.)) Cheers --BaronLarf 12:55, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

Madison metro area template

If you start to edit the city article, you'll see that the name of the template is {{

and as you may know, this parameter sets the view, discuss, and edit links at the top. I've now fixed the problem. Nyttend (talk

Bishops O'Connell and Gallegos articles

Hello, I see that you also built Bishop Eugene O'Connell's article. There is a nifty fact about him in this SacBee article, Supporters work to boost former Sacramento bishop closer to sainthood. The SacBee newspaper reprint on the Bishop Gallegos Maternity Home website, named for the deceased bishop, has a neat fact about O'Connell: (from the 14th paragraph near the Pope and Bishop photo) Bishop Eugene O'Connell, Sacramento's first bishop, was moved from Los Angeles to Sacramento after he died more than 100 years ago. I would like to incorporate this as the last statement in O'Connell's article but the sacbee.com website is down and I will be logging off soon. It might help to have another editor put this fact in as I just copyeditted O'Connell's article. If you have time, could you write and cite it? Also as per Gallegos' talkpage, that article has great info that can go into his (hint, hint). Thanks in advance.--Morenooso (talk) 05:32, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Wisconsin unincorporated communities request

I took a road trip this Sunday and took pictures of a bunch of unincorporated communities. Since you always find some great sources for the communities - I'm wondering if you'd take requests and start the following articles. I'll be uploading pictures of them sometime. I have about 50 pictures to upload from various trips to race tracks. Some have the same name as the town that they are in:

  • Winnebago County
    • Pickett - Cty Hwy M & WIS 44
    • Waukau - WIS 91 & WIS 116
  • Wausara County
    • Borth - Cty Hwy D
    • Poy Sippi - WIS 49 & Cty H
    • Pine River - Cty Hwys H & E
    • Mt. Morris - WIS 152 (east terminus), Cty Hwys G & W
    • Saxeville - Cty Hwy W & A

A few other misc. ones from other trips:

  • Brown County
    • Hollandtown - 1 mile west & 1 mile north of Forest Junction - my WIS map says Holland but the signs and everyone else calls it Hollandtown
  • Oconto County
    • Stiles - US 41
  • Sheboygan County
    • Gooseville (photographed a historic mill that looked ready to fall down)
  • Outagamie County
    • Dale WIS 96

No sweat if you don't have time or interest. Many thanks! Royalbroil 02:46, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

Re: Freistadt

I think that Freistadt should be brought back as a separate article seeing as it was and still is the location of the first Lutheran Church in Wisconsin. It was also the head quarters of a Lutheran Synod for 3 years. Loopygrumpkins (talk) 21:51, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

I would not be opposed to this, if there was interest in bringing it back. It was originally merged as part of an effort to depopulate a rather empty category of "neighborhoods in Wisconsin", but I had second thoughts about the merger after I made it happen. --BaronLarf 09:48, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Nomination of Alphonse Gallegos for Did you know on March 27, 2010

Hello, I believe this honor should go to you as the creator of Bishop Alphonse Gallegos' article. Today his body is being moved to the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament and on March 27, 2010 is scheduled to be re-interred.

March 27 is cited as a fact which is a requirement for DYK. Would you please nominate this article to Did you know using that wikilink? It would be nice if the article was picked up today.

Thanks in advance and for what you did in starting this article. Also, if it does get listed be prepared for the page to get defaced as vandals love to trash DYK articles. --Morenooso (talk) 12:20, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

I recommend you ask Nyttend who is listed on your talkpage as the form/nomination confused me. He has had some successful articles nominated and accepted to DYK. I recommend you copy what is posted here on his talkpage and request he help you. He is way smarter than this average bear. Cheers! --Morenooso (talk) 12:59, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
BTW, in the DYK nomination, it should be noted that it is very unusual and rare that the Catholic faith moves a body like this. It is only done in special cases like his when being considered for sainthood. He would become the second Sacramento bishop (after Eugene O'Connell to be moved. --Morenooso (talk) 13:13, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, the article doesn't qualify: it wasn't created in the last five days (obviously!), and Morenooso's expansion in the last couple of days doesn't make the article at least five times its previous length. If that hadn't been the case, I would have nominated it. Nyttend (talk) 14:13, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
By the way, if you have an article that passes the DYK criteria (1500+ characters, created or at least 5x expanded in the last five days), just tell me and I'll be happy to nominate it. You can provide a hook (the statement that appears on the Main Page) or you can ask me to write one; it doesn't matter. Nyttend (talk) 22:27, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your compliments! I've enjoyed writing them (more are partially written; I'm waiting for a county history book via interlibrary loan), as well, of course, as visiting them. Most rural areas in this part of the country are predominately Methodist; driving through the Land of the Cross-Tipped Churches is quite interesting, with the little wooden Methodist churches being replaced by the huge brick Catholic churches that are the namesake of the region. There are some spots from which you can see five or six. Nyttend (talk) 00:42, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

Adolph Walter Rich, thanks and questions

Thanks for your comments on Adolph Walter Rich. Now, if I want to see what is happening with a submission, for example if I want to follow Adolph Water Rich, exactly what do I do. I would appreciate it if you would keep it really simple, because I am really dense with this kind of thing.

Perhaps you can help with the following general sections:

1) If I am thinking of an article on a particular topic is there somewhere I can go and find out if the topic is appropriate. You understand that I am not asking for pre approval or anything like that. For example I have a vaguely formed idea about an article on "Illinois Barns." This a a serious article, not just pretty pictures. To do it I would put together a group of scholars, exchange, information, read drafts, etc. I am willing to do this, but I don't want to waste the time and efforts of these people if the topic in general is for some reason (to local perhaps). Is there a place I can ask in advance?

2) If I want to put pictures in an article can I just put them in as part of the file and send it in, or is it more complicated. I im thinking her of mechanics, not copyright etc, which I think I understand.

3)I find there is a little nub of a statement on Arpin. I may try to expand it some to deal with the Jewish colony there. Any problems with this.

Elkmilok (talk) 17:15, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Here is the URL for Bonaventure's bio which is in Spanish:
You saw the translated version I left on the talkpage. I erased it because while it is a loose translation, I did not want problems with it. I will post the URL on the article in my userspace. He still isn't getting Yhits which is troublesome. Your book might be the only way to flesh out his article. Posting now on his article. --Morenooso (talk) 00:29, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
Bonaventure Broderick is just about ready to be pushed out to mainstream unless you still want to edit a couple of sections. The sections that need to be fleshed out from your book are: Resignation, Impact of resignation and a new section called Later life and death. Hopefully the book tells why he resigned, what the impact was and how he became a gas station attendant, editor of the diocesan column and what his later duties were under Spellman to include death details (although catholic-hierarchy could be used for a one liner death statement. Still, the present reference #2 that I used to cite the
WP:LEAD statement alludes to there was something more about his resignation and the impact on his life meaning that he chose to keep his vows in essence. If you could find a couple of one-liners in the library book and place them referenced in each section, I think it will be ready to pushed out. What do you think? BTW, Nyttend nominated Broderick's article using the hook I recommended. Hopefully, you will get a DYK out of it. --Morenooso (talk
) 07:41, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
Did the Vatican or his superiors ask him to resign or was it voluntary? Then, what happened? How did he end up as a gas station attendant? How did he come to editting a newspaper column? --Morenooso (talk) 14:49, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
Where did he die? Cath-Hier is not clear as it just says he died with a title. --Morenooso (talk) 14:50, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
BTW, Broderick was an author. I remembered seeing a partial list of his books in a visual listing which was his first Yhit. Here it the listing: Books › "Bonaventure Finnbarr Broderick". There are four books listed and unfortuantely are out of print with no ISBN number. Do you want to add them? Supposedly he became quite the scholar of early Roman history while a student there. --Morenooso (talk) 00:49, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
Any input on this? --Morenooso (talk) 21:19, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

I think he's kicking back with his arms folded behind his head. He nominated my second article for a DYK but I don't think the hook was as great as it could be. I would have mentioned Callistus is the grandson of a Tribal chief. How are you doing? I may pump out Bishop Manogue in the few days. It's on my userpage and you are free to edit it. So I'm kicking back? Sorry, I just got back from mowing one of the fourteen lawns that I mow each week :-) Thanks, RFD, for the congrats; I just discovered a book with sources on nearly all of Ohio's National Register sites, so I've taken a break from writing about most of these large Catholic churches (but not all of them; St. John's Catholic Church (Delphos, Ohio) is up for DYK) so that I can improve overall coverage. I'm waiting for nomination forms for several other churches to come in the mail; once those arrive, you should see articles on this, this, this, this, and this church. Nyttend offered to move interwiki articles over to the English version if there is a burning one you know about. I would colloborate if asked. I was really touched when you came to me about McFarland. I had never created an article before and really doubted not only myself but my time available to create the article. And, it was a tricky one if you know what I mean. Morenooso (talk) 14:22, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
It amazes me that other wikis have articles on American bishops which the :en does not. I showed Onaga's to a friend and he say that is one of the few African bishops to not only have an article but picture to boot. Not that the Vatican would come to Wikipedia to see a picture of him but's it fairly notable that Onaga is a young bishop with a picture on English Wikipedia. --Morenooso (talk) 14:40, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Thomas John McDonnell

Ya gotta let me know when you create an article, master. I've done some work on Thomas John McDonnell. I have some more citations but need to get dressed for an event later this morning. I believe I can get it over 5300 bytes which would a 500% improvement over what you started (not that your great work is being exceeded). When this is done, maybe you could get Nyttend to nominate it for a DYK. I think that he said more high masses than succeeding to a bishop's see is somewhat the hook.

BTW, that was me. Umm, I thought of a better hook and will place the first part of it in the citation's ref. Basically one of the masses with 3,000 people said by TJM was covered in the
NY Times sports section. The DYK hook: DYK, TJM said a mass for 3,000 people that was covered in the NY Times sport section? --Morenooso (talk

I am going to build an article in my userpage tonight that I want to push out tomorrow. If you could improve on it, I'd appreciate it. ----moreno oso (talk) 06:05, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Ready? He gets lots of hits but they are most religious ones. I believe that if you do my Trikc search method, more ghits will arise. The Trikc method is listed on my userpage and I will place it here too. ----moreno oso (talk) 12:50, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
Here is the DIFF of his better citeable stuff. If you look at the basic URLs I listed in his sources section and the ones built into the article, you should be able to bring it out of stub status. I will push it out now. ----moreno oso (talk) 12:54, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
I find it easier to work first in a userspace file and then copy/paste into the real article. Here is User:Morenooso/Emil John Mihalik workspace. You can copy it to your workspace if that is better for you. Its talkpage has some suggestions. ----moreno oso (talk) 14:20, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
If you could work on the stub, I'd appreciate it plus we could go for a double nom. ----moreno oso (talk) 00:16, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Ytrikc search

Scroogle is a great to get hits from Google. I read it about it several years when some advanced users figure out a way to have Google's search engine perform anonymized searches without the evil Google empire getting your info. Scroogle will delete your info in four days (supposedly). ----moreno oso (talk) 12:50, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Bishop Bonaventure Broderick

I've never heard of him, but I'm intrigued. Cardinal Spellman is always an interesting study as well. Unfortunately, I'm not sure when I can look into this. Thanks for the leads. I'm always looking for something to do. Take care. Farragutful (talk) 15:17, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

  • I normally don't let other editors touch my workspace area without my permission. I should have been asked about this first. ----moreno oso (talk) 07:51, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you for the barnstar! I thought you didn't hand them out, which makes this one all the more special to me. I appreciate working with you too on Wisconsin topics! You are a very valuable contributor. Royalbroil 12:34, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

Barney on the DYK page

Please see DYK Queue 6 which hits the frontpage at 11 pm on May 27. ----moreno oso (talk) 06:28, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

The credits are screwed up. Barney is on the frontpage but I just got credit for
Ana Maria Canseco who was featured a day ago. Congrats in advance. ----moreno oso (talk

WPBiography tags

I have never worked out how these tags appear on article talk pages, but here are a number of articles that appear to be missing them. Is there any reason, apart from the fact that they have simply been missed ?

Players Association, Roscoe Shelton, The Butler Twins, The Dale Sisters, The Headboys, The Legendary Blues Band, The Lemon Pipers, The Pearls, Boogie Bill Webb and Calvin Frazier. There are two others that I am less sure about; maybe (album) tag - Slade discography and Willie's Blues
. Thanks,

Pine City, MN

Hi RFD - Sorry to bother you again (like I did about Cottage Grove, MN), but I have a similar incident at Pine City, Minnesota where a certain editor continues to add non-notable people to the list of Notable Natives, and refuses to believe that they need to establish notability. There's some definite COI. I'd appreciate it if you would weigh in. Thanks! Iulus Ascanius (talk) 21:10, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

New Bishop's Articles

I'll see what I can do. I've been doing some work on historical structures and people in the Davenport Diocese recently as well as some work on the American Redemptorists in Brazil and Thailand. I anticipate getting a couple more books about Davenport in the next couple of weeks so I might focus on those pages. I'll look into the late GR auxiliary though. You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not

autoconfirmed
to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious

Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here
.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 23:20, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Disruptive editor

I see that you've dealt with a particular disruptive editor.[11]. His disruptions are continuing, under new IPs and usernames. I've posted at AN/I.[12] An admin suggested I notify editors who have dealt with him previously. Eurytemora (talk) 02:35, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Hope your recovery from surgery proceeds smoothly (and relatively quickly). Best, Eurytemora (talk) 10:43, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Wiscoal, Kentucky

No problem, I'm glad to write it. If your friend has any sources with the history of Wiscoal, I encourage her to add them to the article. It's always good to know that the community articles are being read, especially by someone with family from the community; that's part of the reason why I write so many of them.
