Deadliest crash

The deadliest crash of this year was a military shootdown, namely the

Lockheed C-130B Hercules was shot down in southern Vietnam on 12 May, during the Vietnam War, killing all 189 people on board; it was at the time the deadliest plane crash of all time. The deadliest civil aviation accident was South African Airways Flight 228, a Boeing 707 which crashed shortly after takeoff from Windhoek, South West Africa
on 20 April, killing 123 of the 128 people on board.
