Respecto a Sudáfrica, a los pocos días de haber asumido el cargo, el Canciller Wagner anunció haber cerrado el Consulado del Perú en la Ciudad del Cabo, como una demostración de condena al apartheid y de rechazo al neo-colonialismo y la discriminación racial.
