Confirmed cases
As of 3 March 2020, a total of 92,240 cases were confirmed in 77 countries and territories, including 12,089 cases outside of mainland China.

Africa
Algeria
On 25 February, Algeria confirmed its first case, an Italian man who arrived on 17 February;[2] on 28 February, Algeria deported him back to Italy, via a special flight from Hassi Messaoud airport where he was subject to quarantine.[3]
On the morning of 2 March, Algeria confirmed two new cases of the coronavirus, a woman and her daughter, the health ministry said on Monday.[4]
On the afternoon of 3 March, Algeria reported another two new cases of the coronavirus, which brings the total number of confirmed cases to five, a state news agency said quoting a statement from the health ministry. The statement added that the two new cases are from the same family, a father and daughter, and were living in France, adding that there's an investigation to determine the identities of the people who were in contact with them.[5]

All flights from China to Egypt have been banned since 26 January. Egypt's health ministry announced the first case in the country at Cairo International Airport involving a Chinese national on 14 February.[6][7] Egyptian authorities had notified the World Health Organization (WHO) and the patient had been placed in quarantined isolation in hospital.[8] Preventive measures were subsequently taken to monitor those who came into contact with the person where the others tested negative.[9]
In late February and early March, multiple foreign coronavirus cases associated with travel to Egypt were reported - including two cases in the United States,[10] two cases in France,[11] one case in Canada,[12] and one case in Taiwan.[13] On 28 February, the Egyptian cabinet officially denied rumors of covering up coronavirus cases.[14] On 1 March, Qatar banned all arrivals from Egypt, excepting Qatari nationals, as a safety measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus.[15] On the same day, Egypt announced the detection of a second case of coronavirus.[16] On 2 March, Kuwait announced that it would test all arrivals from Egypt and Syria for coronavirus.[17]
Morocco
Morocco recorded first coronavirus victim is a Moroccan national residing in Italy and returned to Morocco before being found infected.[18]
Nigeria

On 27 February, Nigeria confirmed its first case. An Italian citizen who entered Lagos on 25 February from Milan, Italy, for a brief business visit fell ill on 26 February and was transferred to Lagos State Biosecurity Facilities for isolation and testing.[19] The test was confirmed positive by the Virology Laboratory of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, part of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.[20] He was transferred to the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, Lagos.[19]
On 28 February, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health announced that the Italian man had travelled on a Turkish Airlines with a brief transit at Istanbul.[21]
Senegal
On 2 March 2020, a 54-year-old man from France was confirmed to be the first case of coronavirus in Senegal,[22] living in the Almadies Arrondissement of Dakar, having been tested positive at the Pasteur Institute in Dakar.[22] He had travelled on Air Senegal on 29 February 2020.[22] Senegal became the second Sub-Saharan country to report confirmed cases after Nigeria.
Tunisia
Tunisia confirmed their first case on 2 March 2020, with the victim being a Tunisian returning from Italy.[23]

Canada
As of 2 March, there have been 24 cases of coronavirus reported in Canada, all of which were either in British Columbia (8 cases), Ontario (15 cases) or Québec (1 case).[30] All cases had recent travel history to a country with a substantial number of coronavirus cases. Of these cases, eight (5 in British Columbia, 3 in Ontario) have recovered.[31]
Dominican Republic
On 1 March, the first case in the country and the Caribbean was confirmed. A 62-year-old man from Italy entered the country on 22 February and fell ill on 24 February, when he was transferred to Ramón Lara military hospital.[32]
French Overseas Territories
Three cases of the coronavirus were confirmed on March 1, in the French administered Saint-Martin, Saint Barthélemy and Guadeloupe each reporting one case.[33]
Mexico
On 28 February, Mexico confirmed its first three cases. A 35-year-old man and a 59-year-old man in Mexico City and a 41-year-old man in the northern state of Sinaloa tested positive and were held in isolation at a hospital and a hotel, respectively. They both had travelled to Bergamo and stayed in Italy for a week in mid-February.[34][35][36][37] On February 29, a 4th case was detected and confirmed in the city of Torreon, in the state of Coahuila, from a 20 year old woman who traveled to Italy.[38] On 1 March, a 5th case was announced in Chiapas in a student who had just returned from Italy.[39]
United States
On 21 January, the United States confirmed its first case, a 35-year-old man living in Snohomish County, Washington who had travelled from Wuhan to Seattle–Tacoma International Airport on January 15.
As of 25 February, there were 66 confirmed cases in the US.[40] Seven individuals had since recovered.[citation needed]
On 27 February, the CDC reported a case in California which may be the first instance of community transmission in the US.[28]
On 29 February, officials of Washington State confirmed the first reported death from coronavirus in the US.[41]
On 2 March, King County, Washington declared a state of emergency and reported it had 14 confirmed cases of the virus, and also reported 5 deaths.[42] The OR Health Authority also reported the 3rd new presumptive cases of COVID-19 in the state, a Umatilla County man hospitalized in Walla Walla, WA.[43]
Oceania
Australia
As of 2 March 2020, there were 33 confirmed cases in Australia: 9 in Queensland, 9 in Victoria, 9 in New South Wales, 3 in South Australia and 2 in Western Australia. 15 of these cases are reported to have recovered while 1 has died. The remaining cases are in a stable condition. 10 cases are associated with the Diamond Princess repatriation flight from Japan. All have since returned to their home states for medical treatment.[44][45]
On 1 March 2020, it was reported that a 78-year-old man from Western Australia, who was a passenger of the Diamond Princess, had become the first person to die of coronavirus in Australia.[46][44]
Australia is screening passengers arriving from multiple locations. On 1 February, the federal government began refusing entry to foreigners who had been to China in the previous 14 days. On 1 March, the government announced they are expanding the ban to include foreigners who had been to Iran in the past 14 days, while Australian citizens who have been to the area are to quarantine themselves.
New Zealand

After initially having public health staff meet flights from China to look for signs of COVID-19 among arriving passengers,[47] the New Zealand government announced on 3 February that travellers from China would be denied entry to New Zealand, with only New Zealand citizens and residents and their family accepted.[48]
On 28 January, the Ministry of Health set up the National Health Coordination Centre (NHCC) in response to the outbreak.[49] An Infectious and Notifiable Diseases Order was issued to take effect from 30 January,[50] which required health practitioners to report any suspected cases under the Health Act 1956.[51]
On 28 February, New Zealand confirmed its first case, a New Zealand citizen in his 60s who had recently visited Iran, returning via Bali, Indonesia. He was admitted to Auckland City Hospital.[52][53][54]
On 2 March, Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield said there were two more suspected cases in New Zealand that had symptoms that might be consistent with the COVID-19 coronavirus.
South America
Brazil
On 25 February, the first case in the country and South America was confirmed.[55] As of 2 March, Brazil had 2 confirmed cases and 433 suspected cases in 23 states, 91 of them in São Paulo.[56]
Ecuador
On February 29, the Minister of Health in Ecuador, Catalina Andramuño, confirmed the first case of the virus in the country.[57] The patient, a woman on her 70s, Ecuadorian citizen which resides in Spain, had arrived to Guayaquil on February 14.[57] According to Andramuño, she had no symptoms when she arrived in the country, but then she began to feel bad and have fever. She is currently in serious condition and with reserved prognosis. More details about the woman and the hospital where she is located were not disclosed due to security measures. 80 people who were with the infected woman are also being studied.[58][59]
On 1 March, Andramuño announced that 5 new cases of coronavirus have been registered in Ecuador.[60]
International conveyance
The outbreak spread to several cruise ships including the Diamond Princess and the MS Westerdam.[61][62][63]
Prevention in other countries
Africa
Nigeria
Nigeria has a chance of recording outbreak of COVID-19 due to its cosmopolitan nature. However, report through National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) shows a high level of preparedness towards containing COVID-19 in the event of a sudden outbreak. From the experience and prompt control of recent Ebola outbreak in the country, health facilities such as Irrua Specialist Hospital (ISTH), in the South-south Nigeria, and the Central Research Laboratory, in Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), South-west Nigeria have shown immense capacity in urgent control of COVID-19 from wild spread.[20]

The government announced a travel ban between China and Jamaica. All people entering Jamaica from China will be subject to immediate quarantine for at least 14 days, and anyone who was allowed to land and shows symptoms of the virus will be put in immediate isolation.[64] In keeping with the new policy, 19 Chinese nationals who arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport on the evening of 31 January were denied entry, quarantined and put on a flight back to China on 1 February.[65]
Panama
The Panamanian government has enhanced its sanitary control and screening measures at all ports of entry, to prevent the spread of the virus, isolating and testing potential cases.[66]
Trinidad and Tobago
Health Minister Terrance Deyalsingh, announced that Trinidad and Tobago had decided to implement restrictions on persons travelling from China. Persons who are living or who have visited China, will be barred from entering Trinidad & Tobago unless they had already been out of China 14 days prior to attempting to travel to Trinidad & Tobago.[67]
Oceania
Fiji
On 3 February, the Government of Fiji toughened on border security amidst the outbreak. The Fijian borders will be closed to foreign nationals who have been in mainland China within 14 days of their intended travel to Fiji.[68] Measures to maintain a hygienic environment and screening ill passengers will continue to be taken in-flight to further minimise any risk.[69]
Two Fijian nationals were tested for Novel Coronavirus as they were showing mild symptoms of the disease when they arrived in the country on 3 February from Chinese cities of Guangdong[70]. On 8 February, the Minister for Health, Ifereimi Waqainabete says that the two Fijian nationals who were tested have been cleared adding that Fiji does not have any cases of the disease.[71]
On 27 February, Fiji extended its travel ban with Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama announcing that travellers who had been in Italy, Iran and South Korean cities of Daegu and Cheongdo will be denied entry into Fiji.He also added that thermal scanners will be installed at the country's port of entry. From 28 February, all cruise ships entering Fiji would be required to make first berths at ports in Suva and Lautoka, where passengers will undergo a medical and travel history checks.[72]
Kiribati

Marshall Islands
On 24 January, the Republic of the Marshall Islands issued a travel advisory that requires any visitors to the country to have spent at least 14 days in a country free of the virus.[74]
On March 1, 2020, the country expanded the ban to China, Macau, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Italy and Iran and said it was preparing for the virus entering the country "like a freight train"; ordering health resources and medical facilities to be prepared.[75]
Palau
Palau's President Thomas Remengesau Jr. issued an executive order suspending all charter flights from China, Macau and Hong Kong from 1–29 February.[76]
Papua New Guinea
The Government of Papua New Guinea has banned all travellers from "Asian countries" and closed its border with Indonesia. The order took effect from 30 January.[77][78]
Samoa
Travel into Samoa has been increasingly restricted in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 into the country. Before entering the country, people must have spent at least 14 days in a country free of the virus, as well as complete a medical clearance.[79] Two Samoan nationals who had briefly stopped in China were placed into quarantine on 28 January for two weeks at the Faleolo District Hospital.[needs update][80][81] Three students and a former student were evacuated[when?] with assistance from New Zealand.[82] On 9 February, eight Samoan nationals traveling from India were denied entry into the country after catching a connecting flight in Singapore.[83]
On 22 February, Samoa banned all cruise ships from visiting the country.[84] On 29 February, the Government announced restrictions on air travel, with the frequency of international flights into Samoa being reduced from 2 March.[85]
South America
Colombia
On 4 February, it was announced that the country possess reactives for testing new cases locally, becoming the first in South America.[86]
Venezuela
The Ministry of Popular Power for Health announced on 29 January that the Rafael Rangel National Institute of Hygiene (Spanish: Instituto Nacional de Higiene Rafael Rangel) in Caracas will perform the detection of other respiratory viruses based on non-influenza types, including coronaviruses in humans. It is also the only health institute in the country with installed capacity for the diagnosis of respiratory viruses in Venezuela and is able carry out logistics in the 23 states, the Capital District and Federal Dependencies.[citation needed]
On 3 February, the government announced that the country has imposed epidemiological surveillance, restrictions and diagnostic system to detect possible coronavirus patients at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, Venezuela's main international airport, and that Venezuela will receive a diagnostic kit for the virus strain from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).[87]
